Interesting. Unfortunately I bucked the trend! I was on Verapamil 120mg slow release, daily with additional 40mg normal release tablets in case of AFIB attack.
I was on Verapamil as I could not tolerate beta blockers.
My AFib did progress quite quickly as was diagnosed AFib in Sept 2015, and by the end July 2017 I had had 12 AFib attacks.
However for all that , it could be that I could have progressed even more rapidly if I had not taken Verapamil - I cannot know this! Hence why studies like this are good!
The good news is that Verapamil had NO SIDE EFFECTS ALL for me , so in between afib attacks life was normal.
I was put on to verapamil 120 slow release a few months ago. My losartan was reduced from 50mg to 25mg and together they seem to be not only keeping my blood pressure stable but I’ve not had any AF episodes since I started this combination of tablets. Could be coincidence…..I don’t know. As well as no AF of note, I’m able to walk faster and feel fitter. I do walk a lot (averaging 5 miles over each day) but I was getting breathless at times. Great result for me. Nearly forgot to say, I was given verapamil for tachycardia, which was in 180/200 region for 3/4 hours. NO episodes since starting verapamil…..again, this could be coincidence but I don’t think so.
Best wishes to you.
Mary.
I took Verapamil many years ago. The drug turned me into a zombie and I almost lost my job because I couldn't focus. I once took my pulse when at work, and found it to only be 41 BPM. Everyone is different and maybe others have no problem with the drug, but it was the worst I ever took -- not only for its debilitating effects, but how I felt on it generally.
hello, I’m on verapamil and have chest pains and breathlessness. Did you manage to change your medication or sort out the problem? Thanks
