i am on vacation until Friday. Recently I have found that my Donedarone tablets are sticking in my throat. I was told it may have gone down and just feels like it’s stuck. It’s a big tablet like Panadol only bigger. However I am now finding that my resting pulse is anywhere between 60 and 70 whereas it is normally in the 50’s and can go into the 40’s. which might indicate the tablet is melting in my throat and Is not effective. . Is there any way I can slow my heart rate?

It's unlikely to have stuck and more likely to have bruised the oesophagus, which is a thin tube. Drinking warm water will help, I should think. The dronedarone absorption might have been affected for some reason.

many thanks. I was speaking with a chap in the hotel last night and he says a large tablet can leave an impression as it goes down. You feel it is stuck but an hour or to later the sensation subsided. More or less what you said. That is actually what happened to me. Thanks and keep well. Niall

Your story reminded me of an experience I had years ago, I was birdwatching and offered a fellow birdwatcher a Murray mint, which he took. I immediately accidentally swallowed mine whole and it not only stuck but stopped me being able to breathe. Goodness, I panicked. It did go down eventually but in those few seconds, I was in shock.

I find putting some soft food in my mouth first and chewing a little, then adding the tablet, makes it slide down no bother. A bit of banana or yoghurt, for example, is perfect.

many thanks. I actually tried some banana this morning after breakfast and it definitely helped. Niall

try drinking a good gulp to flush or try cutting in half.

I do take a lot of water with it. My EP told me you should not cut Multaq in half. I have had little trouble with my meds today 4 down one to go. I have a number of kind suggestions to try now. I think water then still some banana and more water seems to work best so far. Thanks. Niall

Common sense sometimes prevails, when it goes into your stomach acid it will dissolve into more than half.

that’s true. I think the caution was in relation to possible jagged edges is you did not cut properly. Thanks for your reply.
