The Beast never goes away

Last week I was in Norway visiting family, decided to take a short manual bike ride, coming back against a headwind it was hard work once home decided to take a ECG reading via Apple watch to my horror I was unable to get a full reading it was all over the place..

decided after trying for 20 minutes or so to let it settle down as there was no thumping heartbeat or erratic pulse reading next day it had returned to normal the watch is 2 years old and never had any issues with it, had ablation some 8+ years ago and have been ok since (he says with fingers crossed) undecided should I contact my GP as there is nothing to show probably be a keep an eye on it response

I have an Ebike at home (uk) so not a one off bike ride always weary of pushing myself to hard as I believe that's what trigger my Af episodes in the first place ..

So if you hadn't had the apple watch and no heartbeat or erratic pulse reading then you wouldn't have known/worried. Perhaps a message there re value of apple watches

Yes...better to be informed rather than not !

You are taking 2learn's comment as the opposite of what they meant. It is an ironic comment meaning that the Apple watch is pretty useless.

maybe I misunderstood.. don’t agree the watch is useless though.. but that’s just my opinion

I wouldn't bother with the GP route and even less so with the current poor service. I had a similar experience with a bike just recently....inexplicably & unusually I decided to take a rare bike ride when tired at the end of the day. Half a mile in I got the pre-AF feeling, so jumped off and pushed it home. Luckily no AF.

Not sure where the 'horror' comes in; I'd be more amazed if, after working hard on a push bike, I could get a satisfactory ECG reading on an Apple watch.

the horror part is where I saw the ECG all over the place and couldn’t get a reading..usually it been constant steady reading

I can't help with the watch issue but would claim that my Afib "journey" was triggered by an exhausting bike ride.

yes agree.. triggered mine lifting weights at the gym some years ago.. so much for keeping fit..

I sometimes find that my Applewatch gets very erratic if I get too sweaty! I run regularly and it’s not usually a problem, but during the hot summer I had two occasions when I stopped to do an ECG because the watch was reporting abnormally high HR. The ECG was all over the place.

I later wondered if it was just poor contact because of sweat. Now I take a small microfibre towel with me.

I have a Fitbit sense, which uses the same technology. Once the heart rate gets over 100 or so it can't keep up, basically.

I had an ECG at my doctors this morning confirming an abnormality, I've been referred on 24 monitor and cardiac hospital appointment..at first I was reluctant to contact my GP but glad now although not thrilled....keep safe
