I'm 20 months post successfully sorting out 3 years of constant AF, using PVI/flutter ablations.
All good NSR until.......lateral flow pos for covid yesterday morning (bit of a temperature, increased pulse, headache, sore throat, that 'flu feeling')..
...went into AF mid day. I could tell straight away and Kardia confirmed. After 1 hour of AF I Took 1x 80mg Sotalol (my PIP) ...back into NSR after 45 minutes.
Today same again. Though I took the Sotalol quicker. I'm hoping once I'm over the virus my heart might regain its composure again.
I'm more bothered by the AF appearing than the virus !
Quite pleased with the Sotalol as a PIP, it's quite a 'chill pill' when taken as a 'one off' (zen on tap !)

I went back into AF with COVID accompanied by pneumonia but all resolved after I recovered from the virus. Hopefully you will also. Best wishes - lots of hydration and rest.
What an interesting post - and it's good that the stall is doing its magic. I can't take it but find bisoprolol does the same.
We're on holiday in glorious Suffolk this week but my wife has begun with a mild cough and cold and a mild "flu-ey" feeling. We're hoping it's only that as we've assiduously avoided covid against the odds. Our son and his family's experiences with it a few months ago haven't warmed me towards even the omicron strain one little bit.
Glad ur ok now. Ive been taking sotalol for many years , I dont like it, too many side effects. I asked the cardiologist if I could use it as pill in pocket, he said No, it cannot work that way, gave me some explanation that made sense at the time but I forget now. Oh I remember now, he said because it is designed for Rythm control it cannot work to control Rate. My heart beat has been described as ''Regularily Irregular ', and Sotalol mostly manages to keep it on an even keel. However, when it decides to go into AF, nothing is gonna stop it. I typically get maybe 4 big AF episodes a year and they last around 10 to 15 hours before spontaneously resolving. I have very little faith in any of the crop of beta blockers as ive been on them all but Sotalol seems to work best. Oh, my strategy is to try and head off an episode by taking an extra pill when my heart gets Skippy/jumpy , If you wonder how I know if af might be imminent, I have pulsatile Tinnitus and its LOUD, so its my early warning system. Good luck with your life.
