I had a colonoscopy.

It didn’t impact on my PAF.

I worried a great deal about mine, because I have paroxysmal arrhythmia that is only caused by digestive distress (being extreme at times, in which my heart would go off running over 200bpm). I was most concerned about taking Miralax and especially the stimulant laxative (Dulcolax) I was also in consultation about constipation at the time, so my GI doc had me do a full 48 hour clear liquid diet prior to the colonoscopy to ensure my bowels would be clear. I did not have so much as a single ectopic beat the entire time of prep, nor did I have any issues with the procedure itself (propofol was used). I did get a few ectopics when I resumed eating after the procedure, but nothing major.

Had one recently. No problem. If you're on anti coagulants, make sure they know. That said, the prep is more likely to push you into afib than the procedure. I cane close. Some preps are worse than others, so that's a discussion worth having prior.

I went into AF just prior to my first one. Was told I was dehydrated. They still did the colonoscopy. Second time a few years later I made sure drank enough water and I had no problems.

Yes I did.

Have had colonoscopy with sedation while in permanent atrial fibrillation, no problem at all. Due another next week and I am not worried about it . They will tell you when to stop and restart your meds so they don't interact with any sedation. You will be monitored at all times during the process.

Just make sure you tell them you are on anticoagulants as they may want you to stop them the morning of the procedure or the day before so make sure you check. I did tell the nurse at pre-op - on telephone consultation and she either must have missed it or so she didn't tell me to stop. Luckily they asked about anti coagulants the morning I went in for the procedure and I told them I had taken one and the nurse said yes but you didn't take them for the last 24 hours did you and I said yes - so they brought me a cup of tea and told me they would make another appointment and not to take my anticoagulants the night before or the morning of the procedure. I was really ill the evening after mine - they gave me a number to ring and the person at the end of the line was useless so ask what you do if you are sick or have the - diar horror as my wife calls it afterwards. Drink plenty to avoid dehydration afterwards too as any sickness etc later will dehydrate you too. I used dioralyte rehydration drinks which you can either buy as cartons of drink or sachets of powder which you mix with water.

hi

I’ve had 2 colonoscopies , with sedation and pain relief given at the start, and I had no problems at all. I’ve had a stage 2 polyp removed with no obvious bleeding despite being on Apixiban. I didn’t take the anticoagulant onthe morning of my procedure.

Good morning. Yes I recently had a colonoscopy with sedation and I have to say it was not a pleasant experience. I've had several cardioversions under sedation and never felt a thing but for some reason it was very different for the colonoscopy. Perhaps they just didn't give me a big enough dose.

Having said that I know of at least 2 other people who've had them under sedation who felt fine so perhaps I was just unlucky.

I hope it all goes well.

I had a colonoscopy recently and was told not to take the morning dose of Apixaban. Thought I’d try just having gas and air but halfway in asked for sedation. No problems at all - wish I’d had it at the beginning!

I had sedation and had both upper and lower studies. When I woke up I was fine and had no heart problems. I have 8 stents, a pacemaker and afib controlled with amiodorone. I know it is scary but I had to have the tests. I wish you no problems. Just take it one moment at a time.
