hi all. We have a sicky bug circulating in our house, which has affected our visiting family too. It’s a strange one that in the last three weeks only infected one person at a time, with at least three days gap between ! I am the only one not to be affected - yet ! What I really want to know is if ( when ) I get it, do you think it’s ok to take the electrolyte sachets that come with things like Dioralyte ? I have paroxysmal Afib and taking Warfarin and Bisoprolol. I guess the virus is sure to trigger some Afib attacks !

I would. Mind you I did read once that a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of sugar in a glass of water was just as effective and a whole lot cheaper. Whatever you do make sure that you drink lots of water to stay well hydrated.

Thanks Bob. Interestingly, along with your ‘cheaper’ suggestion, I read in a medical site that some salty crackers and sips of ginger beer could be helpful….so you are singing from the same hymn sheet as the experts - as usual ! ☺️

Hi, I had a bug similar to that a few weeks back and took Dioralyte with no effects on my AF. The bug didn’t affect my AF too much apart from when I started eating properly again. Be careful not to eat too much too soon. I had five hours of AF to deal with but it wasn’t too bad. Take care xxxx

I caught norovirus on a cruise ship a few years ago and succumbed about 3 days after my husband. It was hellish🤢🥵......I was sure AF would start up but I felt so bad I didnt care one way or the other! I kept taking my warfarin and other drugs thinking that at least some of it would be absorbed. We took Diarolyte and then Immodium. I must have had a quadruple dose of the latter to feel safe leaving cabin on disembarkation day !

The good news was that AF did not make an appearance at all! I stayed hydrated as much as I could , at least after the first 24 hours or so.

I hope you don't succumb but if you do then Diarolyte should be fine

Would be fine id say and better than risking dehydration. My gp recommends teaspoon of salt in large glass of flat full sugar lemonade

You could check with the pharmacist to be on the safe side.

Good idea - I always forget about pharmacists !

Ooh, I hadn’t thought of that - I haven’t had a tin of that in the cupboard for years - Thanks !

I was in hospital a few months ago when I caught the bug. Actually I was in the process of being discharged when it hit and was kept in for a further 72 hours. Hooked up to drips on and off, Water and a Dioralyte. I was on Tinzaprin at the time, along with Entresto and Bisaprolol. Didn't affect my AF as that's well controlled by a PM.

Nasty little bug.
