Ask your doc if you can change to something else, no point in struggling on when there are alternatives.

With AF there are many drug options and it seems the medics can always suggest an alternative until it works for you. You don't provide your AF history so can't comment further apart from to say that I was just put on Flecainide.

This is a very low dose, especially if taken once a day. So you must be reactive to it. As others have said - lots of alternatives.Just wondering, are you taking at night? This might be the problem. Lots of people feel lethargic and tired on Bisoprolol but I've never heard about hallucinations with this drug. Maybe others can chip in.

The bisoprolol I take has no such effect. The worst is a vague chest discomfort. I would think what's happening with you is the reduced heart rate and blood pressure it causes might not suit you. I would most definitely ask your doctor for his or her opinion.

Confusion can be caused by many things . Suggest you see your doctor.

I find beta blockers difficult to take. They make me faint and feel unwell. I have tried three kinds - bisopropol, metopropol and proponalol. Excuse the spellings. Currently I only take an anti-coagulant. Fainting is not recommended! Might be something else you can try........

Yes, horrible drug! Felt like I was walking through treacle and had brain fog. My quality of life went through the floor. Refuse to take them . I now take flecainide twice daily and have been free of afib for 7 weeks. I was having 4 episodes a week. Consultant said it was ok not to take bisoprolol with flecainide except if I have a break through or if my heart rate races. So far my life has changed thanks to flecainide. I am well and fit again.......walking and swimming. On waiting list for an ablation but happy with things the way they are right now. Bisoprolol suits some but not everyone.

I was only on 1.25mg but every Tablet I had put me to sleep in 40 mi it's for 4 to 5 hours and when I woke up I felt dreadful, confuded, withPain in my arm.my normal hr was 70, it dropped to mid 40s if I remember correctly. I stopped talking it after 8 days. I had only had 1 afib event, apart from high hr I was asymptomatic so from 1 day to 2 days later I knew it was the bisop. My gp tried me with atenolol which was better bu still problematic, so she decided I did not tolerate beta blockers and put me on verapamil a calcium channel blocker, which dId not have ANY side effects for me. However I did not have any Co morbitities.

Try to switch to Nebivolol same dosage. It’s works much better at least to me. Speak with your doctor first of course. Good luck 👍

I have posted a bit about my issues with bisoprolol, and was on the lowest dose. Felt like I got my life back when I weaned off it. (Note: I did have about 18mths on bendroflumethiazide before going onto nebivolol) I am now on nebivolol with verapamil as a pip. Felt weird when started taking nebivolol for about a week, but now it has settled down I feel fine. Wouldn’t touch bisoprolol again with a barge pole, as the saying goes. My gp was happy to get me off them as he couldn’t function on them either! X

can i ask please how do you wean off 1.25 mg as lowest dose and yes i tried nebivol before and seemed to get on with it ok, i’ll ask for that one now. Thank you so much as i could try cutting them in half ? i’ll speak to Gp tomorrow although due the confusion and feeling dizzy and feint i ended up in a & e all day saturday and they saidy ecg was abnormal and kept asking me if i had chest pain i said only very slightly it was more the confusion and dizziness like my brain wasn’t getting enough oxygen and they said my ECG didn’t match the blood work they did ? i’m not sure if they were getting at that i had a mild heart attack or something but repeated ecg before i left and said the abnormality was still on ecg but not as bad ? to be honest i’ll follow up with Gp as just wanted to get out of there !!

in reply toSupernerogirl

That sounds like you need a follow up with an EP/Cardiologist. Did they tell you what the abnormality was or suggest a follow up?

Even a small dose of Bisopropolol can give some people horrible side effects. I was on 1.25 mg and it certainly didn't suit me. Fatigue , low heart rate etc. I stopped it after 2 years. Thank goodness!

thanks yes heart rate does go down to 48-50 not as bad as proponol that made my heart go down to 40 ! so bad :-(
