My doctor said I can stop my beta blocker (bisoprolol) and just stay on flecainide…? I have been getting head rushes when ever I get out my car from sitting to standing and often see stars if I jump up or stand up quickly. I thought I read that you can’t take flecainide on it’s own?
Flecainide on it’s own ?: My doctor... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Flecainide on it’s own ?
It's not recommended as taking flecanide on its own can trigger flutter if you haven't already got that. If you DID have flutter,a rate control drug such as Bisoprolol is needed to keep rate steady .I took flecanide on its own fir a week ( started in hospital) Week later went into flutter.
When you say Dr do you mean GP or cardiologist/ Electrophysiologist? They are better placed to help you
What dosage are you on? Might be an idea to drop dose if possible.
I had similar and told to take at night ,it did help with dizziness etc.
Some people on here take nebivolol as an alternative, and I believe diltizaem is also possible
I would query it really xx
Thank you 😊 I am SVT but not sure if I have a flutter too as my pulse jumps around a lot … I won’t know for sure what I have until ablation day when they will trigger it and see what’s what … I amOn minimum dose Beta blocker .. it was my GP who advised however I have since left a message with my cardio for more advice
Not enough info here. Perhaps your GP stopped your BB because your BP was too low or your HB was too low.
If that is the case then it could be that you still have low BP and on standing up you get dizzy.
I was only on Flecainide for AFlutter and had absolutely no issues for 2 years. Only after the successful ablation did I stop the Flecainide but it worsened my ectopics.
I was on both and because of a slow heart rate I was told not to take Bisoprolol any more.
This was 4 years ago and I have had no issues.
I would check again with your EP if you are concerned as we are all different.
Pete
I took flecainide on its own for 14 months no trouble whatsoever, except for keeping Af at bay.
What dose of flecainide are you on? And how often do you actually go into a fib when you're on flecainide?
Often they say not BUT there are exceptions. People on this forum. And my own EP has said that some people are OK with it solo. We've discussed it as an option for me in the future as I start to cut down on my pills, using the flecaas a 'maintenance dose". His advice was to keep a few Diltiazem tablets (acting like your Bisoprolol as a rate controller) in reserve in case needed. However - must stress I haven't tried it yet and would only do so on his advice.
I've been on lone flecainide previously....about 15 years ago mind.I've never heard that it can't be taken alone.
Sounds like your BP and or HR is low, I don't think Flec solo is the issue. I would check with your cardio asap as most GPs don't have sufficient experience. You are young and if no comorbidities may be alright. I am 68yo and have been on 200mgs Flec solo for 8 yrs no problems.
Good for you in questioning such an order from your doctor. Can you check with your EP?
I've been on Flecainide alone for 3 years...no betas or thinners...and no issues at all it has worked perfectly for me so far. I am in good shape physically and no other conditions...very good health otherwise than my paroxysmal afib, (which the Flec has eliminated).
I have been taking Flecainide without Bisoprolol for two years. My resting heart rate is low 50bpm at night just below 60bpm during day. Blood pressure 117/71 I still get occasional PAF during night but lasts less than 10minutes. The patient information leaflet for Bisoprolol says that it shouldn't be used in patients with resting heart rate below 60bpm. My sister takes Bisoprolol so have seen information from her medication
