Bricking time!

Just had a call from RBHT to "invite" me in on 27th July though they may need me a day earlier for blood tests. This for my angiogram and pacemaker. Too much time to worry me thinks.

You’ll be fine Bob, shame I’m gonna miss you by six days, I’m there on the 21st for my mri, good luck and as you know, you’ll be in the best place, as they perform miracles there.

My neighbour recently had one fitted. He is brilliant. No problems. You will be in safe hands and they are very experienced in this procedure now, I wish you calm and peace. Anyone who says they would not be worried is telling fibbies, so chin up. You are going to be ok.

Well I wasn’t worried or telling fibbies when I had my pm fitted, I was just relieved to be there and getting it sorted, my husband already had one so I knew what to expect which no doubt helped.

I'm not surprised that you're nervous. No doubt that things will go well but that is a time to have to fret about it. Hopefully it will all be worthwhile and you'll benefit from having this done. Looking forward to hearing your success story. Sue

Really feel for you Bob, but there's been a lot of good reports on this forum re pacemakers. The time from now to then will fly by. x

My friend had a pacemaker fitted, she was equally nervous. Its revolutionised her life, she is like a new much livelier person now full of energy. You couldnt be anywhere better for the procedure. Look forward to much improvement. Best wishes.

Hi Buff, that book has stood on my bookshelf for almost 20 years. Is it worth a read?

Not sure how a PM will help when my average HR is 85 but I trust my EP after seventeen years. Guessing they will increase nebivolol as at present if I take more than 1.25mg my rate goes too low and I get presyncope.

Tellingfibs profile image
Tellingfibs in reply to BobD

You say you trust your EP, so try not to overthink things at the moment - remember, so many of us agree that anxiety is unhelpful ! Also, you are worrying about what drugs they are going to use. You can discuss such things with the medical team afterwards. My friend had a PM fitted and just followed all advice as it came along. She is a very intelligent person who usually questions things to make sense of them, but this time, she just decided she just had to leave it to the experts. After the PM was fitted, she said she returned to her ‘old self’ and was able to ignore it while it got on with its job. When she sees the cardiologist, she gets a report about how frequently the PM has kicked in ( without feeling anything ), and she is happily astonished to see how it has saved her so much heart chaos ! We all feel for you on this forum, and we hope and expect to hear from you afterwards, when things have settled down, saying you wish you hadn’t worried so much ! All the best !

You can only stay calm and carry on, you know its going to be better after the procedure so good thoughts only until you get there.

Will be thinking of you Bob , I’m hoping that you’ll be seeing Dr C as usual ? You know that you’ll be in such good hands at RBH . It’s the long journey up & the waiting that’s not great though . I’ve found in the past a few drops of Bach’s Rescue Remedy under the tongue helps me when anxious . Keeping everything crossed for you 🙏❤️‍🩹🙏

Interested to know what is the PM aimed to sort out, as you appear to have neither high or low HR?

2nd degree block

Interested to see what type of PM is suggested then. Good luck!

All the best Bob - I suspect most of us would be feeling the same. There appears to be several different types of pacemaker these days - I’ve been advised I’m under review for a CRT pacemaker for my heart failure. Anyway there’s plenty on this site who’ll be wishing you well - and rightly so.

Bob I was not sure how a pacemaker would help me so was resisting until I was in hospital for a bike accident and my EP persuaded me to have one fitted. Kicks in if my heart rate drops below 50bpm. An insurance as I have LBBB. Fitted a 2 lead pm with no real problem apart from could not get 3rd dysynchrony lead to attach. I still have the protection of a pm if my hr gets progressively worse. Don't really notice it. Something to show the grandkids!

Can certainly understand the nerves.Pacemaker is one route my cardiologist is considering for me and it feels a big step.

But I have 3 family members with one and none of them have had any problems.

Hoping you can put it to the back of your mind for a couple of weeks. 🤞

Bob your the Captain of this ship! Stiff upper lip and all that, and you know you will be just fine. 😁. All the best.

Bob now is the time to put yourself in the shoes of all those many many people you have reassured and helped on this forum. My friend had a pacemaker 15 years ago and life has only got better each year without incident. You’re a tough old bird you are going to be great 😘

Nothing to worry about, Bob. With your background and expertise I’d have thought that you’d be quietly chuffed with becoming part-bionic. As AFCyclist says, something to show the grandkids (literally). I guess that my average rate is around 85BPM with resting in the high 50s and peak in the 130s (AV node ablated).

Good luck, Bob. I have had both an angiogram and some time later, a CRT PM which was implanted on 31.10.19. Had no problems with either procedure and none since. I have been on every dose of Nebivolol but seem to be settled on 2.5 mg daily now.

Not Churchill, actually G. Bernard Shaw on that quote the other day, but Churchill did say "courage is not the absence of fear but the triumph over it". I say, it just comes with the territory. Best of luck with the procedures. We're here for you.

Best wishes Bob. As you know it is a painless procedure. It has changed my life in that l don't have anymore blackouts.

All the best with the PM …I see Meditronic have one that’s programmable to assist with AF with some reasonable results. I wonder if that’s on general release …

Good luck Bob. Its a low risk procedure so should be fine. But like you the waiting is the worst. I was waiting for a colonoscopy after poo test but was told up to 13 week wait private or NHS. But luckily i managed to get a cancellation for tomorrow. Let us all know how you get on..Linda
