I'm 6 months post ablation and it's been a rocky road with af episodes early on and now experiencing ectopics and extra beats ...my question is over the last 4 days I've had breathing difficulties as in getting my breathe . I rang my arrithymia nurses who had me in for a ecg and BP and hr check which were all normal and they didn't think it was heart related .
Could.low potassium.cause breathlessness? I take ppi for gastritis and I know they can block absorption of these minerals .
I'm taking verapmil which I've been reducing since my ablation.. and I'm on 100mg now from.160mg straight after my ablation .
Any thoughts and experiences? Thanks

6 months post ablation and with ectopics and extra beats plus recently emerging breathlessness ?
On a positive note, if I understood correctly your EP & nurses think these are acceptable and you do not need a second ablation procedure. If this is the case I do not see a reason to worry at all.
I myself had the procedure 24 days ago and having ectopics and some remarkable shortness of breath, similar to your case. But did you develop these recently or were they present earlier on? Anyway, my personal estimation of my situation is that there is a considerable role for anxiety on the fate of the outcome, plus some inflammation as I feel terrible now. Maybe you can consider your own situation considering the reasons I forward for mine.
You could have something allergy related, but it may be wise to get it checked out. When the pollen is high my asthma kicks in, and it's not funny when you can't breathe. H'sope you can find out what's causing your problems.
I think you should see your GP to be checked. That said, I had a good deal of what someone here, I believe, called "breath hunger", after and before my ablation. I don't feel out of breath properly but do feel the need to breathe in more deeply. I still get this on occasion. I wonder if it isn't gastric related, sometimes, but it is always when I have odd heartbeats or a racing heart, often with a mild chest discomfort. The cardiologist I saw and my GP are both content that I'm okay, as I expect you will be, too. Anxiety isn't helpful, either, and likely worsens the whole affair and, especially, how we feel about it.
I hope you go on well. Life is difficult with this condition, even though many seem to cope well.
Hi yes that's how I am ...I.have to breathe more deeply to get a breathe ...I see you take ppi the same as me also . Do you ever have low potassium?.as this can make you breathless ...
Hi. I expect like you have regular blood tests because of the anticoagulant I take and I ask my GP to test for other things at the same time just to be sure, but so far, all is well.
I hadn’t heard that PPI drugs could affect potassium levels, only magnesium and, from that, calcium.
check first your oxygen level with a pulse oximeter even though a good value doesnt mean everything is good. If you are in blood thinners remember that anemia/low counts of cells might happen in some cases and could potentially cause shortness of breath. Ectopics might be caused by electrolytes imbalance and might be also contributor to your symptoms. Check with a GP and have a blood test if it is possible.
