Breathlessness...

Hi,

Is there anyone on the Forum who has had a successful Ablation (cured of Arythmias) but still has breathlessness on exercise or walking up stairs and inclines.

More than just a little concerned as to what the implications could be..I have mentioned to my Drs.but not really getting anywhere...

Still only 9 months post Ablation...

Thank you,

Carol..

Are you taking a beta blocker post ablation? That could be a cause, as it was for me post ablation and I weaned myself off Bisoprolol and now take Diltiazem which does not have the same reaction.

Hi Frenchgoose,

I was taken off all meds (Bisoprolol and Flec five days Prior to Ablation) apart from Warfarin...

l am not on any meds apart from Warfarin..

Maybe this is how it is now with the breathlessness and it's something l just have to learn to live with...

Best wishes,

Carol.

I am on Bisoprolol and Diltiazem amongst other meds. My resting heart rate is still around 90. After my first 3 ablations the SOB went but after this one although in SR, I still have it. I would love to wean myself off the BB but reel my heart rate is still too fast.

in reply to Barb1

Hi Barb,

Prior to my Ablation I was convinced that the Breathlessness was due to the Bisoprolol but sadly not- it is part and parcel of the AF...

Barb don't wean yourself off without approval from your consultant GP/EP...

Hi Carol

Had ablation 2 years ago. Took at least a year for breathlessness to go and I found

it very difficult to exercise much. Decided after a year that I would gradually increase moderate exercise so that now I try to walk 5 miles a day and cycle the same a couple of days a week, and I manage that quite easily. Breathlessness almost gone but not if I Have to walk uphill ,it then kicks in badly. Something we have to live with perhaps.

Hi Fi

Well that sounds reassuring... It's taken me a full 9 months to 'recover' from Ablation... Not up to five mile walk yet or my Brompton but have started back at gym...

Last weekend l foolishly thought l would try Snowden which was a doddle prior to Af but didn't get very far...Perhaps being a little ambitious hey!!!

Thank for your reply and yes maybe this is what it is now and just have to pace myself but I am grateful that the AF has been aborted...

I think we underestimate just how unfit A.F. had made us leading g up to ablation. It is probably just taking a while to come back to our pre A.F. fitness. Although I tried to keep exercising, it was very hard to get enough oxygen round the body in order to keep going long enough for maintenance of fitness. Maybe we need to build up fitness again very slowly. Good luck.x

in reply to dedeottie

Hi Dedeotte,

I am under no illusion that this Af has been cured and accept that it is just "silent" at the moment...

The checking my pulse and monitoring my blood pressure daily is for me just a distant memory...Something I used to do but no longer do...

All that's left now is the breathlessness not as debilitating as pre Ablation nethertheless still something that concerns me somewhat...

Somehow or other it is reassuring when others say "yeah,I know where you are coming from "

Regards,

Carol x

I would ask for a spirometry test to check the lung function as well at least then you are aware of what it is capable of and might tick off another box to the question.

I have heart and lung problems so breathlessness is the norm but I have also found to have Pulmonary hypertension which really messes up my breathing. I am waiting for a bike test to see what may be causing me to be so breathless on the lightest of exercises?

Thank you for your reply Offcut...I am sorry that you are suffering with the breathlessness still its not a nice feeling,I hope the bike test will come up with answers for you...

i Googled the spirometry test and I see its done at the Surgery so that is my next port of call..

Thanks again and keep well.

Carol.

You too. If it does show anything they should then do one at the hospital which is in a negative pressure plastic box.
