Antidepressants
P365. I take Apixaban and was adviced to stop taking Citalopram ( not setraline but still an antidepressant) my anxiety levals increased when I stopped and I started with GI symptoms. Had to go for an endoscopy which was fine but the Gastroenterologist wrote to my GP and said to resume the Antidepressants . Seems all antidepressants are contraindicated with Anticoagulants . But Anxiety and Depression can make life very difficult. Hope all goes well for you .
Thank you for messaging me. So how did you cope without taking antidepressants?
No I took the Gastroenterologist advice. He said I was more likely to get an ulcer than a problem with the Antidepressants. The smallest dose of citalopram is 10mg, because im only 52kg I decided to cut it in half and found that it was enough to make me feel better, hope you find a solution for you. I sympathise.
Hello P365 yes I take apixaban and sertraline. Hav’nt noticed any problems but everyone is different. Hope you feel better real soon.
Both of these are anticoagulants so must be used with this in mind.
Hi P365 I take both of these x
Hello,My pharmacist alerted me to the fact that anti depressants and heart meds don’t work together due to a possible QT elongation. My heart specialist wasn’t to bothered about that fact. I did come off the anti depressants just to be on the safe side.
I now find out that I should not take anti inflammatory meds or THC products.
All the best on your journey.
Hi, I take apixaban and Sertraline 100 mg and have been doing so for 5 months. I am also on BP medication for slightly raised BP. I’m 69 years old and female. I get tired after walking quickly and heavy cleaning, gardening etc.If you have a similar condition to me (PTSD after illness) did you have a particular question? I definitely needed the Sertraline and I’m assuming it’s the BP meds causing my tiredness. For the moment it’s a put up with it as I need Apixaban as I had plumonary embolism due to antiphospholipid syndrome, BP needs treating and Sertraline has got me back to sleeping well and dramatically less anxious and hopefully won’t be too long term. I don’t expect my GP would have prescribed these treatments if risk outweighed the benefits, having said that it is always worth understanding why you have been prescribed them and possible side effects, question your GP.
Wishing you well and good luck.
Thank you for your reply. No i don’t suffer from PTSD. I have AF i am a 73 years old female. I developed depression after being diagnosed with AF also have high BP taking medication for that. My GP prescribed the antidepressants. Read on the Internet that they can heighten the risk of bleeding. I’m just weighing up the pros and cons. I find i get tired quickly but i put it down to the apixaban and beta blockers i take for AF. Best regards
Hi I take 150mg of Sertraline plus 10mg of Apixaban and 50mg of Atenolol daily. I was on Flecainide and an extra 25mg of Atenolol but managed to drop these post Ablation. I have not even considered dropping the Sertraline I need it! Without it there would be life on just the heart meds but to quote Dr Scot from Star Trek “not as we know it”! I think it always takes longer than the Doctors think to get to tolerate a drug but once you are settled why would you want to rock the boat? I do have nosebleeds etc from time to time but am happy to accept this to stay on the anti depressants. Good luck!
