Or do you think I need to up my dose Take care
Af breakthrough : Hi All Hope you are... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Af breakthrough
Any inflamation in the body can bring on an AF event if you are so predisposed. Hopefully if you stay well hydrated things will settle down soon.
I went into afib/aflutter on Easter Monday then tested +ve for covid on the Tuesday. Admitted to hosp the following Saturday put on digoxin & doubled bisoprolol discharged after 3 days but still in afib/aflutter now awaiting follow up appt. I had been arrhythmia free since my ablation in Oct 2018 and no -one in hosp would commit to blaming covid for its reappearance now but what a coincidence!
Thanks so much for your reply I had worked myself into a state so I phoned Af nurse She said any sort of virus can cause Af episodes and try to be calm and it should stabilise Still hoping and waiting.
My AF was diagnosed during Covid 2 years ago. I was in hospital with breathing problems due to Covid, but part of the cause was being in AF. Have has 2 cardioversions since then and am now prescribed Amiodorone as being in AF makes me so unwell.
Last year I picked up Astrovirus - similar to Norovirus though not as bad. After 5 days of it my AF kicked in just as my gut was starting to get better. You might find the same. It should settle back down.
I only take bisoprolol on an as need basis, but that is now 1,25mg quite often. I would ask your GP about upping the dose if your heart rate goes uncomfortably high for you. I was advised yesterday to do that by my GP whose comment was "you have plenty of room to manoeuvre with bisoprolol".

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I’m trying to relax but I think my anxiety is taking over.
Oh dear - join the (probably quite large...) club. I live with high-ish levels of anxiety quite often. It's not easy to deal with but somehow, I mostly do. My GP has given me some diazepam for neck spasm and that is also good for anxiety. I take it now and then if I get too tense and it does help a bit. I've read similar from quite a few people, especially on a US AF Facebook website that I joined.
How does it affect you?
Steve
Mostly I’m ok. I’ve had a rough few months in December my mother passed away after I’d been caring for her for two years Then after the house clearance etc etc Then end of February I had a new knee ( which is not healing quick enough for me ) then we had the dreaded Covid and then a uti I just think I’m fed up with myself I’m usually out and about I expect it’s a lot of my fault.
My AF was originally diagnosed because of an infection, I had cut my shin on a very sharp spike on an aloe plant, and despite my efforts at first aid it became infected after a few days. The GP prescribed an antibiotic that made me vomit and vomit until I was vomiting flecks of blood, I phoned the GP's surgery and was told to come at once. My HR was 140 and the ECG showed AF. The GP was worried about a dissection and sent to me off to a Cardio. He kept me in hospital for two nights, established that the small amount of blood was due irritation of my gut from the vomiting and antibiotic. I have been treated for AF ever since.
Thanks for your reply. I was given antibiotics for a uti. All the time I was taking them I had diarrhoea. So I have been all out of sort for a while. I’ve also got really anxious and my anxiety is heightened by every little flutter. I phoned my Af nurse and she said just calm down and it should settle down Easier said than done .
What antibiotic did you take?.
Words are cheap, and those who do not suffer from anxiety do not realise what it is like. I have suffered from it since childhood and have been on anti anxiety medication for many years, I try to take it as and when I need it, not the full dose prescribed, but I do find that if I get that familiar nervous feeling in my tummy that could cause AF, if I take a pill it calms me down and the feeling goes away. My Cardio has no objection to my GP prescribing the pills.
I agree with you it is awful Over the years I’ve had episodes. I really hope you feel better soon
I used to suffer from anxiety attacks until I started magnesium supplementation. I found it really help. I take it spread out 3 times a day.
Thank you I'll try that, does the supplement come in various strengths?
There are many different forms of magnesium . General advice is that the most common and cheapest -magnesium oxide - is not as well absorbed. I take magnesium biglycinate and each capsule is 150mg. This gives a bit more than the recommended 350 mg a day for women . Too much magnesium can have a laxative effect. You could start off with a small amount and work up. Also eat raw nuts which are high in magnesium.
Thank I’ve just started taking Magnesium
Hi exmouth I almost always get an episode of afib after diarrhoea, my EP says it is because of the imbalance of electrolytes in the blood. I just drink plenty of water and carry on as normal
Thanks for replying I’ve been trying to drink more. My husband always says I don’t drink enough but I am really trying now Take care
