The Big 3

We all have different causes nuanced with our beliefs for developing AF. In an effort to keep it at bay or at least minimise episodes, I suggest identifying and concentrate on your Big 3.

Mine are Stress, Gastro and Exercise.

With Flecainide, this has kept me AF free for 8+ yrs but being complacent on any of these (which can and has happened several times!) gives me that pre-AF feeling and I rapidly revert to the norm before an episode can start.

My Big 3:

1) Sleep Apnea

2) Alcohol

3) Stress/Anxiety

I'm currently in NSR and have been for 10 months without AAD meds due to dedicated CPAP use. Prior to CPAP use, I would go into AFib middle of the night and usually after alcohol, which amplifies the sleep apnea effect.

Stress and anxiety makes everything worse including ectopics. I take a small amount of Flecainide as needed to quiet the PVC's, but continual lifestyle improvement would also help!

I have not had any ablations or cardiac surgeries as of yet...

Yes SA is very relevant, with me it is mild only, eased with nasal strips, so it didn't make my Big 3. Best wishes.

Stress, gastro, sleep deprivation

Stress, gastro, dehydration.Flecanide in various guises ( PIP, low daily dose, high, medium etc at different times) kept IT at bay except for some breakthroughs for approx 8 years. I was not convinced of ablation as I was pretty well controlled. However in the last 9 months I've had more minor breakthroughs ( few hours AF or Afl) and two drawn out episodes of around 6 weeks duration 24/7 on and off for few mins at a time. Current one resulted in fast tracked to double ablation soon.( Have been on list for literally years with Covid crisis intervention)

Both these followed an infection of different things warranting antibiotics so it seems anytime I get an infection like that ,I'm in for a long haul.

Can't be doing with that,so would add infection to the list!

Good post be interested to read replies x

In future if I need antibiotics (part of my 'Gastro') I will be immediately consulting an Alternative Practitioner as to what I need to counter them as no real knowledge but believe it is probiotics.

For me:

1. Emotional Stress

2. Sleep deprivation

3. Dehydration

Yes Dehydration is often mentioned possibly aggravated if your having alcohol. Surprisingly, it is one area where I haven't taken much action. I don't have alcohol and I make sure I have 2 pints of very weak Ribena (with fresh lemon juice) every day in addition to other beverages. Maybe I need to do more??

I've given up trying to work out what sets mine off......... when there's an R in the month is about the closest I've managed to scientifically narrow it down to.😁.

Well if you come to Boston you can eliminate those pesky R's....September actually becomes Septembah....😀
