I’m curious to know what others have experienced with AF when taking Metropolol
I was recently on vacation and had symptoms of irregular heartbeat and AF on my Kardia nearly every day
Any suggestions of why this might happen?

I take bisoprolol as needed when I get a racing heart or AF (very infrequent these days, thankfully). I get quite a few PVC beats when I take it and I have read that these are more likely to occur when the heart beats slowly. Perhaps you could reduce the dose with your GPs permission to see if this stops any bradycardia occurring?

Last year my doctor changed me from Bisoprolol to Metroprolol at my request but Metroprolol did absolutely nothing to stop the very frequent runs of tachycardia I was getting at the time. I changed back to Bisoprolol and everything calmed down. Even a small dose, 1.25g of Bisoprolol makes me feel as if I am wearing lead boots BUT it is very effective.
I've been taking Metoprolol for a while now and not a lot of irregular beats. Your sym may be unrelated to the medecine but due to: extra excitement, salty foods, extra sugary foods or dehydration, or all of them. (Or maybe some alcohol?) I've experienced a day when I was very busy and not drinking water and that night I had AF for hours. I made a note to myself to never do that again! I hope you enjoyed your time away anyway😊
If I read your post correctly, you were put on metoprolol and are now getting more afib episodes. Probably not caused by metoprolol and is a coincidence but anything is possible.
Some doctors give out beta blockers like bisoprolol and metoprolol automatically as a cookie cutter solution to those with afib. I tried it daily and it didn't do anything for my arrythmia's other than give me bad side effects. I now only use metoprolol and diltiazem when in afib for rate control or for safety reasons when I take flecainide, I'm sure some should be on it daily but IMO many are on it daily for no sound medical reason and could dramatically improve their quality of life off of it.
I'd suggest asking your doctor for a trial off metoprolol. See if your quality of life is better with or without. In most cases, afib maintenance is all about quality of life.

HiI had AF and given Metoprolol in hospital when I said no because it would make me breathless.
I was given Metoprolol in 2009 for high blood pressure.
It should not be prescribed if you are asthmatic or have breathing problems.
You are taking too big a dosage. But if it does not control AF - it did not with me change to Bisoprolol.
Or better still try CCB Diltiazem low dose 120mg.
Metroprolol has been banned for me although in NZ I've been told this drug is the first line of treatment for AF.
Have you had a thyroid neck scan? Have one. aF was caused by thyroid cancer.
