Start of an episode and symptoms

Hi all

Does anyone else have the need to go to the toilet as soon as an episode starts? (Number 2!!) just wondering if this is normal!

I’m also feeling pleased with myself as I’m having an episode and not freaking out too much (yet!!) which is good for me with my health anxiety. Have had my extra tablet and an electrolyte drink and am now hoping it stops soon!!

Peeing more often when in AF is normal. It’s caused by an enzyme BNP produced by the ventricles in the heart which signals the kidneys to dump all excess fluid and salts. Ensure you replace your fluids and eat a salty snack or take an electrolyte drink.

I didn’t know why that happened and I haven’t even been replacing fluids. Will get an electrolyte drink from now on when I have an attack. Thank youJane

Yep, always need not. Last time about 10 wees too. I was so dehydrated after the cardioversion!

Not number 2, but my kidneys unload urine like crazy when I go into fast afib or aflutter. Sometimes void a liter or more fluid in an hour. I try to have a sport drink like Gatorade around but plain water and something salty should suffice.

Yes, each time I had an AF period start, it was accompanied with needing to poo!.

Yes. Mainly its weeing but sometimes poo too. Don't we AFibbers have fun!☺

Yep, same here too, both departments! No. 2 first, then peeing for England for the first couple of hours of an episode. I often lose a couple of pounds overnight despite taking on more fluids. I hope your AF episode has settled by now.

When you have an onset of a fib or palpitations, yes, most often you will have a symptom of having to move your bowels and go to the bathroom.

It all relates back to your on a autonomic nervous system. When the vagus nerve is affected or has pressure put on it everything will kick in. It’s like stepping on the gas. Your heart goes crazy, you will have to go to the bathroom, you may begin to sweat,.

I found out that my a fib was caused because a small hiatal hernia may cause pressure on the nerve and that resulted In the heart issue.

There is an excellent YouTube video on a fib in the Vagus nerve by York Cardiology. It’s a great explanation and how you can avoid a fib by how you eat. And other things. I get chiropractic adjustments to make sure that I am in line and there was no pressure in my chest. I also lost weight. I also eat small meals. I have not had an episode of a fib and months praise God!
