My Cryo PVI Ablation experience

I had a Cryo Pulmonary Vein Isolation Ablation on Monday….I was quite nervous to be honest not ever having had much done in hospital before, well, it was a very strange and interesting experience, I was only under light sedation so can remember everything..no pain .but some very strange sensations during the procedure.

I was on the table for about an hour and three quarters, only time will tell if it’s worked completely but the Consultant told me he was very pleased with how it went…

Steady recovery now bit of walking, then swimming in a couple of weeks …see how that goes then hopefully try a few gentle bike rides in a few weeks

I can’t fault all the team …I was really well looked after from the moment I arrived , during the procedure and the aftercare…fantastic professional people through and through.

I arrived at 07.30 am and was back home for 18.30 the same evening.

Im 58 yrs old and long term Racing Cyclist and Runner…

Thanks for all the advice from people on here over the last couple of years , the information has been invaluable and if anyone needs to pick my brains on my recent experiences .. no problem cheers Sam

Ah, the perfect storm for AF then with your history. lol 😁

Glad you are happy. I think most people are more worried before the event but it is usally fine. Now rest plenty and don't be too eager to rush things.

Fantastic. Glad things went so well. I am impressed they did it under light sedation with such a short table time.

As you may have been told, serious participation in endurance sports is associated with afib. Dr. John Mandrola, an ep and serious cyclist who also has afib, wrote a book that might be helpful called "The Haywire Heart". He also advises his post ablation patients to think twice before returning to their previous long distance endurance activities, as they can potentially undo what the ablation accomplished. I just sent you a private message.

Great to hear it went so well. As others say, easy does it as you go back into your exercise routine. Try some interval training to begin with - slow, moderate, faster - just for a few minutes at a time. After each round stop completely till your HR comes down. You're literally testing the water - what's your heart comfortable with right now on a day to day basis.

Great news all went well. Now it's time to rest -- longer than you think you need to (I know from experience!) before you get back into the swing of things. Wishing you a successful recovery.
