Yesterday, 28 Mar 22, I received a letter from my local surgery stating that a review of my medication had taken place by a consultant cardioligist and that I was being moved from Apixaban to Edoxaban as it was cheaper and was not detrimental to my health. It transpires On my medical records had been passed to a 3rd party for review and I explained to this 3rd party nurse that... 1. The review had not taken account of my recent blood analysis; 2. they had not taken account of other medication recently prescribed; 3. Physical activity routine adopted.
It was explained this was a cost saving and NHS had negotiated a huge cost saving compared to Apixaban....she was informed the cost saving was £4/month from BMJ (quick sucking of breath could be heard). I asked about a drug to counter any bleed and was tokd there was one, it was explained that there is not and why would I put myself at such risk. End result, the nurse from this commercial company undertaking the review was, as I was clearly uncomfortable with the change she would now move me back to Apixaban.
MOST IMPORTANTLY TO ALL READERS, IF YOU ARE ON EDOXABAN YOU ARE MORE SUSCEPETABLE TO MORE SEVER OUTCOMES SHOULD UOU HAVE A BLEED. STROKE OR HEART ATTACK. MEDICAL JOURNAL.
Could I thank the post from Jimlad2 as the information you provided helped me greatly.

What a cheek and thank goodness you knew the right responses to make.
My AF nurse told me that when the newer drugs came out, she thought that she would always be faithful to good old Warfarin, but by what she'd seen and reports she'd read was now recommending Apixaban.
Warfarin is much cheaper and if, like me, you can test your INR with your own test meter it doesn't mean regular visits for blood tests. Contrary to popular opinion I am not restricted to what I can eat.

So, that's £64 instead of £68, hardly a huge cost saving in terms of risk in my book. I'd be changing doctors if they were to pass my medical details to a third party without my consent.
All the best.
Roy
Could you send a link to verify the statement made in loud print as I am sure many people on Edoxaban will be alarmed
