Prior to my first ablation back in 2016, I was taking 2 x 50mg Flecainide as a maintenance dose with Diltiazem for almost a year. Prior to that I was just taking Diltiazem and I do not recall the Flecainide causing any additional side effects but of course, we are all different…….

I haven't had those side effects from Flecainide, in fact not aware of any side effects -- although I do get side effects from the antidepressants I take. In addition to Flecainide for AF, I take Bisoprolol and Candesartan.

At least for me, side effects with flecainide are dose dependent. You might ask your doctor to try a lower dose such as 50mg twice a day and see it that helps and still holds NSR.

Currently I'm taking 25mg in the morning and 50 at night. I feel much better than when I was taking higher doses. It's like night and day when I took 100 twice a day or even 50 in the morning and 100 at night.

For me it's really all about the quality of life. I'd rather go into a fib every month or two on a lower dose of Flecainide and feel well, Then never go into a fib on a higher dose but feel drugged all the time.

For me, 50mg Flecainide twice a day didn't stop the AF episodes. My Consultant doubled the dose up to 100mg twice a day and I felt dizzy and weak but the AF episodes stopped. After two weeks he suggested I reduce the dose to 100mg in the morning and 50mg in the evening (this way round as my AF happened mainly during the day) and he said that the lowest dose that worked was best as flecainide is a powerful drug. I have now been on 100mg in the morning and 50 mg in the evening for a couple of years and feel fine on this and am in sinus rhythm.

Its very individual, so if it is ruining your QOL agree something different with your medics. A lot of trial and error is involved so keep up the persistency. I have had no problems with 200mgs Flecainide for many years.

I take Flecainide 50mg twice a day, together with Diltiazem. Not had any problems. Talk to your doctor.
