Bleeding gums , help.

Hello all, hope you are all doing good. I’ve had a lot of bleeding from my gums, not sure if it’s from colchicine, flecainide, bisoprolol or tablets to protect stomach. Does anyone suffer with this and any tips to stop bleeding or protect gums . Plus has anyone experienced weight loss with colchicine. Thank you.

Hi! If you research a little, you will see that one of the side effects of the jabs, you most probably received in the past years, is Thrombocytopenia, meaning production of less Thrombocytes than it is usual and necessary. Since you, most probably, take some anticoagulant in parallel, it is not strange that you have problems with gum bleeding. The worrying question is, are only your gums bleeding... Make a blood test, to check about Thrombocytopenia and, if it is confirmed, try to reduce or stop for a while anticoagulant. I am 70 yo and take no anticoagulation, so be sure that you will not die instantly if you stop it, lol!

It’s interesting that Steel Heart finds it amusing when he suggests interfering with prescribed medication especially as this goes against forum rules. Look into it by all means but the consequences of exposing yourself to the increased risk of stroke will make bleeding gums seem like a walk in the park…….

Bleeding gums can indicate gum disease which is also related to AF and heart disease so may I suggest you see a dentist as soon as possible. When you say a lot of bleeding, is it unprovoked ie not caused by eating or cleaning teeth?

Only if no disease is seen by a dentist could you look for alternative causes. Please know that if you are on anticoagulation and stop suddenly that your stroke risk will increase.

I had to have extensive treatment for gum disease and need to constantly keep on top of oral hygiene but thankfully all is now resolved.

I don’t know what evidence SteelHeart has for his comments but we cannot give advice on medication so please see your prescribing doctor for advice. It’s incredibly unlikely to be an affect of vaccination.

Hello, I first had it this bad a couple of days after my ablation, I woke up with bleeding from gums and had lumps of blood in the mouth, didn’t have it again until yesterday, I woke up at 1am this morning with the same. I did notice it every time I cleaned my teeth I bled a lot so it might be that. I’m on edoxaban 60 so I’m wondering if I can ask doc to lower the dose , I’m assuming it will still protect me from stroke.

May I suggest that you first go see your dentist asap. What can happen if you are a mouth breather, especially at night, is gums dry out and shrink back & if there is disease then that could be the cause. Edoxaban will lower your risk of stroke and it will exacerbate any bleed. Blood also looks a lot more when in the mouth.

Take care and rinse your mouth with saline 1teaspoon salt dissolved in 1 pint of boiled water - cool & put in a bottle in bathroom to use after brushing. Hope that helps.

Thank you, I spoke with the doctor and he suggested dentist as well so I’ve got an appointment tomorrow. I went and got a softer tooth brush and some satin floss as well. I will not come off blood thinners as stroke is in my family and I do worry in the week after an episode. Thank you for all the advice.

Ooohh… the anxiety ratchets after an episode. Gum disease is also No1 reason for losing teeth so all the more reason to look after them and see you dentist regularly.

Thank you for your post, and I am sorry to read about your recent experiences. Bleeding gums should not be ignored, and should be checked with your dental practitioner at your earliest convenience.

It is well known, most medications can cause side effects, however, it is very difficult to determine if the medications above are are the cause on this occasion, and almost impossible to determine if it is a side effect of any recent vaccinations.

I would have a chat with the pharmacist about your prescribed medications and the dentist for further assessment regarding bleeding gums.

Thank you, doctor said it is most likely to be blood thinner. I have dentist booked but I guess I’m worried about loosing teeth , I’m 53 so at my age things just get worse .

I've sent you a private message. A certain brand of toothpaste used to irritate my gums, since I stopped using it all is fine. I read that it contained an irritant. I'm actually using a cheaper brand now and no problems. I use that one in the morning and an aloe vera one from the health shop at night.

That’s interesting Jean, I can quite see that could cause a difficulty for some. Can you copy me into the brand please?

I am sorry not to be able to respond to people who commented personally, since I am not able to send a response - suppose to have been banned from doing this.

I just would like all of you to know that I was not trolling, I was not trying to perplex the people or to make any harm. It is obvious that my comments do not suit to some "relevant" people on this forum, so I will gladly stop participating. I must admit to have learned a lot from this forum and I am very thankful for it! Wishing all of you, all the best!

I had the same with Amlodipine, and dreadful toothache, although checked out by dentist recently and all was well, I find Gengigel very helpful, it comes in a tube or spray. It cleared my problem up after about 5 nights application.

There is a Colgate mouthwash called Peroxyl which is recommended by dentists for bleeding gums. I have used it for years to prevent the bleeding coming back.

I don’t have response to bleeding gums, however I wondered if you take Colchisine for gout or pericarditis? I have been taking it for a pericardial effusion and pericarditis and it has been very effective. I have also experienced weight loss with Colchisine. Bleeding seems to be addressed by others. Wish you the best

Hello, I’m on colchicine now , my cardiologist put me on it for two months following my ablation but now I’m tapering off it . I too have experienced weight loss which made me feel great but now I’m coming off it I have to try and keep it off. Why does it make you loose weight do you know? . I lost weight when I had covid but I guess it’s down to colchicine as well.
