Hi can anyone advise if I should continue on Bisoprolol after an ablation as I have been taken off it entirely by the cardiologist and my heart rate is still high 100 mostly ?

I was mortified when my first cardiologist prescribed amiodorone and I read about the horrible side effects. So I went for a second opinion and ended up being told by an EP that it was only toxic over the long term. He agreed that taking it was unlikely to stop my persistent afib so he ordered me the ablation straight away which I’m about to do. I’m still on BP meds and very expensive ele quis. Not sure what this means for you but just thought I’d share my experience over the last six months it’s been since I was diagnosed w Afib. Best wishes!

I'm not a medic but, as I understand it, your heart rate will tend to come down after an ablation. You don't say how long ago your ablation was.

My instinct would be to trust your cardiologist knows what they are doing.

My ablation was 4 weeks ago. I have 2 cardiologists private one ( who operated as there was a 6 month waiting list) said stop entirely nhs said stay on Bisoprolol for 3 months on a low dose.

In that case, it probably won't make much difference! I'd be inclined to carry on if you tolerate Bisoprolol well (I don't).

HR tends to increase after ablation between 10 and 15%. I experienced this and was very pleased. Bisopropol lowers your HR and in my case added to my problems. It has many other side effects also.

I was told to stay on bisopoorl due to the fact I’m still taking Flecanide which needs to be taken with a beta blocker . I had my ablation 8 9 days ago .

Your doctor is your guide, always. Only he or she can know the specific mechanics of your heart and how best to treat them.

After my ablation, I was told to stop bisoprolol after five days and see what happened. Well, I went into AF a few days later and had to take 5mg bisoprolol to stop that, but then that was it - no more was needed.

These days I use it as a "pill in the pocket" for when I get uncomfortable tachycardia or ocassional AF.

I cam off bisoprolol on the day of ablation. I had lots of irregular beats that too almost 6 months to settle. I also had a higher than normal resting heartbeat (80/90) but that gradually came down. It took a year to get back to my normal if high 60s/low 70s.

That was 2013 and I am still largely free of AF. Good luck but be patient ☘️

Early early days yet. I took over four months to stop having bouts of various problems after my ablation last June. I'm still on both flecainide and bisoprolol, as I have yet to be seen again by my EP (now postponed until August!). Give it a couple of months and see what happens.

I was instructed by my EP to come off Bisoprolol on the day of my ablation for A Flutter. Can feel it too even though the HR is normal, I feel the force of the beats stronger now but no doubt that will settle. I'm only 2 days post ablation! Best wishes.
