Coming off beta blockers for holter monitor. .. withdrawal symptoms?

I will have been on BBs for 2 months when holter will be given but my cardiologist said will have to come off the BBs-bisoprolil 1.25 before this. Has anyone had withdrawal symptoms when they've had to do this? Just wondered if the adrenals would be unleashed and I'll have the palpitations again. Any anecdotal experience s welcome. Many thanks .

Hi Celtic.

I can only speak from my experence. 1.25 of bis is low dose. I was taken off it on the day on my cardio's advice (higher dose than you). Was there a problem - none at all and I think your find the same. Sometimes the only thing you have to fear is fear itself. Don't worry - I doubt very much you'll notice any difference.

No panic for you - you'll be fine. Up date us please and see if I'm right. Sometimes the fear is far greater than the reality. I remember being really worried when I was taken off it. Was there any need ?

Nah - none at all. 1.25 of Bis is a low dose - don't worry you'll be fine. Don't give it a second thought.

Hope all goes well for you.

Paul

Thank you Paul...such reassuring words. Not sure how long I'll be on it -thr monitor- just didn't want all the palaver of going back on them and readjusting again. Or maybe I'll come off them and feel much better. The palps were worrying though so needs sorting. Will update when tests back. Warm wishes.

I had to have a test that required me not to take bisopolol for 48 hrs before I was taking 7.5 a day and I was really I’ll but I suppose that’s because my dose was high

I had to come off Bisoprolol 2.5 due to side effects, being exacerbation of asthma and urticaria. Doctor told me to stop for 4 weeks, then a dose of 1.25 for 4 weeks, then none. Research showed that all beta blockers would cause me the same side effects so I don't take any now. I had no adverse reaction to coming off the beta blockers.

Thank you Thomas. Good to hear things settled with no adverse effect s . Did you take anything else for your condition?

I was only on BBs for 7 weeks before urticaria appeared. First GP thought BB were not the cause. 4 weeks later 2nd GP who specialised in skin problems recognised that BB was the cause. Before I had a chance to come off them I suddenly came short of breath. An ambulance was called by the GP and I spent 2 nights in hospital. I have permanent AF. I take only an AntiCoagulant for AF, Warfarin being my choice. I self test.

Hi. Is your AF difficult to detect.

I never went off Metoprolol before the 24-hr monitor.

Then later I had the chang to Bisoprolol. Again 2nd monitor leaving me on it.

Change again to CCB Diltiazem a.m and Bisoprolol 2.5 @ night. Again 3 weeks later I had another monitor leaving me on my meds.

Was anything picked up? Interesting that some keep on with the tablets and some don't.

Have to trust the cardiologist.

I can understand your concern. From what I have read, ppl with other heart conditions are more likely to have to slowly withdraw from bb or cb.
