Asking for a friend -

Good afternoon everyone.

I wondered if anyone could recommend an EP in the Deeside/north Wales area. I am trying to help out a friend who is too shy to come on here and ask herself. Diagnosed AFIB and I believe a flutter. But been waiting 8 months to see a cardiologist, so she doesn't really know the extent of her condition, the usual story. I have persuaded her to go private so just trying to find her a good EP. I live too far away for her to use mine.

GP/hospital have just put her on Bisoprolol and a blood thinner (not my Edoxaban but it sounds similar so I assume the same group of meds). Not agreeing with her at all, she cant even walk up the stairs, constantly dizzy, cant walk around the garden let alone go out and walk the dogs, but keeps being fobbed off by the GP. Quality of life just horrid.

She needs to be on different meds in my opinion but that's obviously not my place to say, but living with heart arrhythmias of various different forms means you pick up a few things. Plus I have this group and all of its knowledge.

Any suggestions?

EPs are very few and far between in Wales but many people post on the forum that they travelled to Liverpool - I believe the centre at Broadgreen?

Hopefully someone with personal experience will chip in soon. How good of you to help. 👍

I'm in Mid Wales and we get referred to Birmingham QEH here. I believe there's an EP in Cardiff. Your friend should talk to their GP and ask to fund them to go to a cardiology department where there's an EP. NHS works differently in Wales so the funding request is necessary unless your local cardiology (mine is Hereford) has an agreement with another hospital that sends a visiting EP. That's what we have - an agreement with QEH Birmingham. So, talk to GP, talk to local cardiology and do some digging

Hi yes Professor Gupta at Broadgreen is an EP specialist. I was getting no where with my Gp so asked to be referred to an AFib clinic/cardiology clinic. Ask your Gp to be referred. In the meantime I did a bit of digging and found out he holds private clinics at Spire in Thingwall on the Wirral, so rang his secretary and booked myself an appointment to see him. His secretary is called Sharon and the number to ring is 0151 600 1251
