Hi guys & girls,

Healthy 39yr old Aussie male, first round of AF at 29 had an ablation at 33 went well. Am 39 now and it has just came back, cardiologist tells me we are going for round 2. Only difference this time is that the AF came back rapid and the sotalol is putting my blood pressure very low.

Hi Todd and welcome.

Hi Todd and welcome to the forum. It may be worth contacting your cardiologist to see if you can reduce your Sotalol dose a little. Other than that, drinking a little more water could help raise your BP.

Hi Jean,

Yep halfed the dose after a week as blood pressure was 85/60, AF comes and goes now but nothing to worrie about. Now my blood pressure sits on 100/60 and I am feeling much better. Really wish I had of kept my insurance after the first surgery but the cardiologist fill me with confidence so let it slide. Got a year of these tablets now while waiting the 12 months to be eligible with the new insurance 🤦‍♂️

Hi Todd, sorry to hear that your AF has returned. At least you are getting some medical attention so hopefully a treatment plan will soon follow. You may already be aware but it’s almost impossible to accurately check blood pressure when in AF so readings from home monitors are very unreliable. Obviously make your Doctor aware and they may well review your medication. Hope things settle soon……

Hey Jack,

Yep your right can't get a accurate reading when in AF, my doctor has me check my resting BP once a day.

Welcome! Sorry to hear your afib has returned. But good sign that your 1st ablation was a success. Maybe you’ll just need a bit of a touch-up to zap those recalcitrant bits. I had similar problems on sotalol. Woozy on the lowest effective dose. Switched to another med - dofetilide, still woozy sometimes, but better control. Hope you can get sorted soon, do you have to wait till the private insurance kicks in?

Thanks Lovertogarden,

Have tried a few different medications last time, for the most part sotalol seems to work best for me. You do quickly forget how much beta blockers knock you around though. Health insurance is a year wait as it is a pre existing problem. 6 year wait through the public system 😳 I am in good spirits though, not scared of it this time.

6 years! That’s so depressing. Good luck w the meds and keeping things under control till the insurance kicks in.

Ask your doctor if Tikosyn is available in Australia. Has kept me in NSR for 4 years with no side effects. Bes, etheral
