Hi, does anyone have any idea what this could be. Out of know where a coupe of times my heart beats fairly fast (100-120bpm maybe) for a few seconds then slows down for a few seconds (40-60bpm maybe) and does this on repeat for maximum 5 mins.

Just to add - the change to fast and slow and then back again is abrupt - no gradual slowing down

I don't know whether you have any sort of diagnosis tom0985, but, on the face of it, this has the characteristics of a heart arrhythmia such as AF and should probably be investigated by health professionals. Many of us started our AF journey in exactly this way, but there's no need for alarm or panic. Sometimes it can take a while to pin down what's going on. If you have readings from a device such as the KARDIA or an iwatch, then keep those to show your doctor what is going on.

Thank you - sorry I should have mentioned, I have confirmed PAF but these episodes feel very much different to when I have AF as with AF normally for me there isn’t a pattern to the heart beats, it’s erratic and I will usually need to take extra medication to get rid.

I had alot of that sort of thing going on prior to my last ablation nearly 7 months ago. Tachycardia ? Ectopics? Do you have a Kardia device to capture these?

I have just had an Apple Watch arrive today so will see if that picks anything up albeit I think the Apple Watch will only say AF rather than anything else. Having a quick Google search on fast then abrupt heart beats the first thing that comes up is Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) maybe?
