High Heart Rate!! What should I do?

Hi all for the past two days my HR reading have been high 120 when just sitting down but it goes higher if I get up and move around. Last night I had to take my dog out which was a bit of a challenge, could hardly walk, restricted breathing due to tightness in chest and distorted vision in left eye.

Apart from taking dog out, I have rested mostly in the hope that HR will return to normal. Normally my HR only goes this high (120) or higher when I go on longish walks which is part of my daily exercise. Even bisoprolol did not bring HR to its normal level.

From AFib experiences in the past, this is not AFib....My heart rate is not erratic. My normal resting heart is usually 65/70. RHR is now 90. My BP is 91/67.

Any suggestions as to what is going on here. What should I do? This is the second day with crazy heart numbers.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I am 70, have enlarged heart, hypertension AFib and stenosis. I have not seen a NHS cardiologist yet, Not even on a waiting list. Bit of a long story

Generally speaking any chest pain MUST be investigated. I suggest you speak to 111 as although your rate is not exessively high the shortnesss of breath and chest pain should be investigated. If it gets any worse I think A and E might be appropriate.

Thank you Bob.....the chest pain etc happened while I was out with dog....exertion/stress even though I was going at slow pace. When I got home and rested the chest pain and other symptoms went away but the highish heart rate remained and still does today. If I move about shoots up. If I were to take my dog out now do believe same symptoms will occur as they did last night. I will take your advice and phone 111 but at present I only have high HR issue which the bisoprolol is not helping.Thank you

With a rate of only 120 (many people with AF go into 200+) you should not be having chest pain at all. Do something about it now. Don't wait for it to become an emergency.

I go along with what Bob has said. Phone 111 fir advice. Do please let us know how you get on.

Agree with all that’s been said but you need to push your GP for a referral, preferably to see an Electrophysiologist (EP). Given the current climate this is likely to take time so if it’s possible, think about a private consultation…..l

I suggest you go to A and E as soon as you can! Don’t wait! Any chest pain should be investigated !

Agree with the others. However I found that when I had a resting heart rate of >120 rising to 160 when active, l was diagnosed with Atrial Tachycardia.

I was given my last ablation which solved the problem.

You definitely should seek medical advice as a matter of priority as my EP was not keen for the Tachycardia to continue as he said it would ultimately result in damage to the heart.

I agree with what others have said here, you really do need to get checked out if having pain in your heart. If you call the 111 NHS number, they will send paramedics out to check you over and do an ECG. Remember it's your heart we're talking about here, it that thing that keeps you alive.

Contact your GP today of not done already. Explain all the symptoms and your concerns. You should be on the list to see a cardiologist and they may be able to request a referral. Don't take no for an answer with the receptionists - they sometimes fob you off with a nurse. I agree wuth Bob, you shouldn't sit on this
