My heart rate is in the 70 and 80s so why is this called AFib..? I do have days when my heart rate is 120 to 140. I am on Eliquis, Digoxin and Verapamil .Monitor self with Kardia which really helps since I do not know if a radical pulse rate is accurate.
How to check heart rate?: My heart rate... - Atrial Fibrillati...
How to check heart rate?
A Fib is not dependent on pulse rate. It is a chaotic non rhythm which can be fast or slow. We are all different!
Hi bob, can you explain the difference with ectopics with normal pulse to afib with normal pulse?
It’s just I’ve had my ablation in Jan and last time I saw consultant I saud I’d had a session of missing beats then a quick beat but my pulse was pretty normal...and was it I had afib, and he sajd ohthats nothing your afib is with fast pulse........
Sue
Ectopic means out of place so ectopic beats come at the wrong time. If you have ventricular ectopics, the ventricle contracts before the atrium has passed any blood down so there is nothing to pump and it feels like a missed beat. The next catch up beat often feels heavier or stronger although this is probably an illusion.
These ectopics can come singly or in doubles, tripples or multiples but THEY ARE NOT AF nor can they become AF.
Atrial fibrillation is a chaotic situation where the atrium. instead of contracting regularly , writhes like a bag of worms so the poor old ventricle is struggling to find blood to pump. Many of the electrical impulses from the atrium get passed down to the ventricle which races away out of rhythm and usually but not always very fast.
I suspect your consultant didn't think it necessary to explain the difference so I hope that helps Sue

My heart rate, during Afib can be all over the place within 10 seconds eg. 45bpm, 190, 72, 148, 170, 55, 86. Thats how I know I am in AF along with the chronic fatigue.
