Had successful cyro ablation August 2021 pulse rate settled at 63/ 70 bpm. Caught COVID last week and after first night pulse rate jumped to 100plus and all over the place ever since. I’m still testing positive so unsure of what to do. Any advice please.

I have no experience of this but it may be worth calling 111 and asking for advice or calling your GP tomorrow.

Thanks

When I had covid although I didn't go into AF, my HR was higher and I got tired a lot quicker. I had three weeks to get over it than the usual 1-2.

Your HR naturally increases when your body is fighting a virus or infection, if it's slipped you into AF and you're feeling unwell call 111 and ask for advice. It's quite likely, being heart related, you'll trip their red flag on the script and be sent an ambulance.

Keep us updated

Will probably ring the cardiac rhythm nurse tomorrow.

I think most people in this state do settle down once the covid is over. Any infection particularly respiratory can do this regardless of AF or no. Bit of a difficult one really since nobody will want to see you.

I had COVID last Oct. It upset my heart for about 6/8 weeks. It eventually settled.

If you are still testing positive is that a LFT or PCR? Are you symptomatic? Or just concerned about your heart?

Either way good advice to call 111 COVID line - which is another number I can’t recall…..

Hope you feel better very soon.

If your pulse is higher than is comfortable for you, do you have any bisoprolol or similar? I would ask your doctor whether your taking of a small dose might not calm things down.

Any viral infection does increase the HR, however you should talk to your doctor not just about the HR but also to have a strategy to handle the covid infection.Check your sp02 regularly until you're out of the woods.

Hi,I had an ablation for atrial flutter in October ‘20. I caught Covid before Christmas and had a couple of runs of fast heartrate in the couple of weeks post Covid. I was given blood tests, an ECG and a consultation with BARTs. I was told that there are many cases of disturbance to heart rhythm post Covid and it can takes several weeks to rectify. I am not medically trained and every case is individual. If you have a Kardia device it is a useful tool for recording episodes for analysis.

Wishing you well.

I had covid last week and during the day and a half of fever, my heart rate was well over 100. After fever left heart rate went back to normal. I didn’t worry as I read that it is normal to have high rates when fighting a virus.

Just wait. I was the same for a couple of weeks afterwards.

All the best.

I had Covid Jan.2 2022 and put me back in AFIB Jan.21 2020 .. I had all the worst Signs of covid I developed pneumonia And still have some long issues I was told by the doctor at the hospital the covid doesn't bring on AFIB. I went into the ER via ambulance yeah ambulance Tuesday night and and they didn't give me a cardio version until a full week and the following Tuesday because of hospital politics.. I explained to them that I was tested positive on January 2nd and they were still reluctant to give me the scope before the cardioversion. They were afraid o would infect the staff in the room. Even though i Was no longer transmissible. They should have done the cardioversion on Thursday which would have been DAY 2 in hospital. Buy yes. If your in AFIB from your covid go to E.ROOM. Though the hospitals are not doing what/how they did before pre-covid , at least they can give stronger faster acting meds to try to control it at lower pace until they finally decide to give appropriate procedures to you. Good luck for sure because I experienced first hand that there new Covid protocols are not in AFIB PPL (our favor) at all. They had me suffer 7 whole days when my heart rate was up in the mid 160's .....
