Holiday insurance

Thank you all for your contributions to the problem of getting cover for a holiday.

I have cover with Staysure, quite expensive, but reachable by phone.

However when I thought I was all settled another health problem has reared it’s head.

Was terrified of notifying Staysure as the cost was getting more expensive than the holiday, well almost! Bit the bullet and notified them of my latest problem which may be serious and to my amazement was told that I did not have to include it and not have cover for predicament. My choice, meaning no help for that particular problem while away.

My Doctor insisted not to cancel as nothing could be done until all the tests are done on the 28th January and if the results are not in my favour nothing would occur until I return on the 18th February .

To sum up it appears that you can choose to not insure a certain illness if you are willing to go uninsured.

While this may not be suitable for a lot of things, there are some issues which don’t need medical intervention, considering the medications taken.

Hope this makes sense, to sum up it appears that you can omit a certain problem if willing to take a chance.

Happy holidays hatten28

I think this happens quite a bit, people opting to exclude cover for certain conditions. I can see the point of it for some .

This happened to me some years ago. A few weeks before our cruise, a tumour was found on my kidney. I wasn’t going to let that cancel our trip. I spoke to our travel insurers, All Clear, who said that as the tumour was thought to be cancer, but not yet confirmed, they would exclude anything to do with the urinary tract. They can’t cover something not known. I spoke to my consultant, who agreed that I could go on my cruise and have the surgery when I returned as the tumour was quite small.

One thing to be aware of in these circumstances is that in my case the entire urinary tract was excluded from cover, so if say I got a UTI that would not have been covered.

You have to look at the wider picture of what may or may not be excluded. This should be clear on your revised schedule.

Knowing insurers, if you were to have a claim, then it will be up to you to prove that it wasn't connected to the excluded condition.
