AF and headaches

Hi, I had an ablation last July, I’ve now had 7 af episodes in the last two months with a painful headache over right forehead which paracetamol has no affect and chest is tight, my BPM is generally between 50/60 at all times, only goes higher when I exercise 3 times a week for 2 hours, my doctor thinks it maybe caused by my HRT (been on it for 42 years with no problem) so he’s stopped it 🙁 he prescribed me Sumatriptan (only gave me 6) no effect but had an af episode instead so am worried if headache is associated with the episodes and heavy chest, I have to sit up in bed for a time as I get hot and dizzy if I stand straight away and drink a glass of water as advsd by cardiologist, doctor is sending me for a scan if headache persists after 2 months, I’m 69 and my biggest fear is that all this is leading to a stroke, just need reassurance as Cardiologist appointment is not until May and the last two months has been a very worrying time for me (I’ve rarely suffered with headaches and this one just won’t go away )

Surely you are still taking anticoagulants so stroke is unlikely? Ablation does not remove stroke risk and with your CHADSVASC score it is highly recommended that you still take them.

It may not remove stroke risk but it does lower it.

Hi yes, on blood thinners for the rest of my life, it’s the headaches that is ruling my life these last two months, just can’t get rid and even wakes me periodically at night

When you say ‘won’t go away’ are you really talking constant headache? I’m thinking of things like blocked sinus but if constant headache persists it’s good your GP is taking it seriously 💜

Hi, yes it’s constant, some days worst then others, can’t fathom out what’s causing it, nothing has changed in my life or food

Two months seems a long time to have a continual headache; I would go back to your doctor before the two months are up if you are still suffering. I do hope you feel better soon.

This guy is about your age. Check out what has worked flawlessly for him and see if you can apply what he has found out.
