Advice please

Hi everyone. I woke up in the night because I was having ectopics and since then they have for the most part ceased but I’m still having little ones here and there and I need to go to work in a few hours. My job is very physically taxing and I have already had to call out due to my heart so I can’t call out again and it’s giving me anxiety. Anyone have advice on how to calm my heart before I have to go? Thanks in advance.

Just remember that ectopics are harmless- some have 1000s a day Do some deep breathing to calm you and concentrate of some calming music if possible

I second what Rosy wrote :)

Ectopics are horrid in themselves, plus sometimes the worry of what worse arrhythmia they might lead to. But they do often seem to respond to good breathing techniques.

If you need tips on this, I find this link helpful

(Thanks to CDreamer, who posted this link previously!)

Really hope they improve. J x

Won’t make an immediate effect but many here say Magnesium Taurate taken as a supplement helps, check out Dr Sanjay Gupta’s YouTube videos on the subject…..

Slow deep breathing . Use stomach not shoulders and slow to less than 6 breaths a minute for at least five minutes. Longer if you can. Works like a charm if you do it right.

Nothing to add ;-)

Yes all good advice here,, sometimes if I do something else ie. work, as long as it's not too physical it helps relieve my anxiety which helps me not too think about my heart and be distracted in a good way. Good luck with it all.

Before my ablation for AFIB last September I had ectopics that woke me up and absolutely exhausted me . I found them more troublesome than the AFIB . It’s ok people saying they are harmless if you are tired most of the time . Initially I found beta blockers helped . Since my ablation they have ceased, speak to your doctor .

I would really recommend searching YouTube for a video from Dr Sanjay Gupta about ectopics. I know how scary and exhausting they can be but his calm and informative approach really took the sting out of the anxiety for me and that has helped so much. If I can find the link I’ll post it here now although there are several to choose from - all really useful. Well worth searching for more and watching them all. They’ll help. Good luck. youtu.be/zEYlYNmvT-A

10 suggestions for dealing with ectopics/pslpitations:

I sometimes think I’m having ectopics but I am not. By using my Kardiamobile device I can confirm whether I am or not. I find it reassuring either way.

Ectopics can be very distressing. I had a particularly strong run once and watched in amazement as I could see my heart pounding through my jumper. I recorded the episode on my Kardia and sent it off for analysis as I was convinced there was something seriously wrong. It was ectopics. You have already had very good advice, I now follow deep breathing as suggested and it works. Best of luck.

Hi again.Bisoprolol is better for you than metoprolol. I was changed and my heart rate fell from 187 to 156hbmin.

Then with no proper control a private cardiac specialist put me on calcium channel blocker diltiazem first 180mg -- too much now 120mg and bisoprolol from 10mg to 5mg to 2.5mg at night.

Now I am balanced.

Heart rate taken with BP. BP 124/72. 71hr. and it's pretty steady. I'm waiting what the 24 hr halter monitor says which I had last week.

Take care JOY

Hi. Advice is a cold drink, meditation and think relax.

Heavy work is not good for someone with A.f especially when it is rapid.

You don't say your meds.

I dont feel my rapid contual A.F because heart is pused aside under left ribcage. I think usually it is under sternum.

Take care. Just got ir to read.

Hi! Thanks for the comment. I don’t have af, I had SVT and had an ablation back in July 2020 but since then I’ve been experiencing ectopics (which I had never had prior to ablation). I take 25 mg metoprolol once a day.

Watch what you are eating. My ectopics were from artificial sweeteners and wheat ingredients. I very rarely have them now, only if I drink alcohol and I have found that after alcohol induced ectopics, alkaline water calms it down quickly.
