How does texting affect your spine?

As a follow up to my post on the spine, this one may explain why those of us who have sat at desks or worked with our heads down for years now have atrial fibrillation. It may also explain why more younger people are getting it.

Years ago when working in The City I had made a wedge shaped cushion to tip my pelvis forward so as to improve my spinal allignement. This was actually as a result of a neck injury we won't go into which otherwise caused my right arm and hand to go to sleep in very short order. It did have great other comfort benefits as well but took a bit of getting used to. I always had to spend time finding it after any leave as nobody else found it as good.

I still ended up with AF though. I think you can make a case for anything as a cause but subscribe to the view that if you are likely to get AF you will get AF regardless. Its that pre-disposition that is hard to quantify (apart for gymn bunnies , endurance athletes and fighter pilots.)

Interesting one Eng.

I don't dispute what you are saying. I've spent 15 years sitting in front of a computer with a poor posture - in fact I'm correcting it now as I type.

I don't blame my afib on that though - more on life style choices in the past or just bad luck.

Good link though and thanks for sharing.

My issues started when we purchased a new couch and chair for our living room ( watching TV) between that and working on my laptop for hours on this new, cushy, unsupportive chair I experienced significant head forward posture for hours. My wife even commented " you look like a turtle sitting there..."

Ever since this I have had significant pain and neck related issues such as arm numbness, dizziness, and anxiety. (which I never had before) as well as AFib which I had for the past 10 years. I am predisposed to these neck issues through heredity but this positioning was the final irritant to cause me significant issues beyond the AFib. After 2 years I am seeing improvement through many efforts, but still struggle. I discuss daily this with my son who sits on a couch, with multiple pillows propping his head for hours watching his Netflix. He is not yet concerned, but I am for him....

Isn't the vagus nerve affected when our bodies are misaligned? Why we have so much pain and more Afib. At least for some. From what others here have posted about the vagus nerve and what some Drs who look into the vagus nerve, it seems when the vagus nerve is "out of whack" all kinds of things can happen. I know I have terrible posture but when I try to straighten out I feel better. Everything has a cause. So does Afib. Wish more Drs were interested in finding the causes.........Take care and be safe.
