Ectopic and short runs

Hi all,

I had an ablation last year and after no further episodes and a 24hr tape, I've now been discharged by the consultant. My question is this, his letter states the tape showed occasional ectopic, including short runs of up to 12 beats. I think I know what an ectopic is but what does the short run bit mean please?

Ectopic means out of place and usually feels like a missed beat. Runs means several at once. Ectopic beats are a perfectly normal function of a normal heart and most people regardless of anything else have up tp 200 a day but never notice as they are not focussed on their hearts. Ignore and enjoy the rest of your life.
