Stopping bisoprolol

After being on 1.25 mg for over a year I could function really well, a bit tired ,but nothing too bad. When I was diagnosed PAF in April my dose was upped to 2.5 mg. my world just stopped.

Nodding off to sleep when I had only been out of bed for few hours, feeling exhausted ALL the time. Fuzzy head ,unable to concentrate , Must admit I never thought the reason was the pills as I had been taking them for a while. Then I read a lot of your posts I could see more people out there were suffering the s ame side affects.

So after 5 months of struggling to cope I asked (begged) if I could change my medication and finally they have agreed.

They have suggested I try out Verapamel 'calcium channel blockers ' So fingers crossed I start to feel human again very soon .

At the moment I am on Apixaban 10 mg..Flecainide 10 mg. Simvastatin 40 mg. Folic acid.

Also on Levothyroxine Had blood test recently and thyroid seems to be behaving.

So fed up taking all this medication and feeling like I am 90 years old only just turned 65

I have my fingers crossed that this new medication will improve things and next year will be a lot better .

Thankyou everyone on this site you have all helped me SOOO MUCH.

That appears to be a very low dose of Flecainide. I was on 150mg x 2 a day, for 10 years.

How did you manage if you had an episode with no room to manoeuvre for a PIP. EP has suggested I take 150 but resisting at the moment.

I had very few episodes as a result of taking the high dose. One or two a year, usually just before going to bed. I'd go to bed and when I woke up AF episode had disappeared. I never need a PIP.

I used to take Bisoprolol but like you would have preferred to spend the days in bed like a Victorian matriarch. Now take Nebivolol and life’s much better at 78!

I am pleased your doctor has finally listened to you and has changed your medication, I do hope you get on better. Some, but not all people experience quite severe withdrawal symptoms from Bisoprolol and have lessened the dose very gradually over some weeks. Your doctor may advise you, and if you use the search box at the top right-hand corner 'stopping bisoprolol' you may find tips should be be struggling. Best of luck!

when diagnosd AFib I was put on 1.25mg Bisoprolol and every tablet i took put me to sleep after 40 minutes, I stopped after the 8th, the cure was worse than the Afib, After 2 weeks on Atenolol, another beta blocker, at 25mg (min dose) which was not as bad as Bisoprolol but I was still very sleepy, my GP decided I was not tolerant to betablockers and put me on 120mg modified release verapamil, a Calcium channel blocker. No side effects, I was awake, I could run! brilliant for 20 months until my AFib progressed. However Verapamil did not slow my HR so much as Bisoprolol ( which was why I had less side effects) and it also takes much longer to kick in after taking the pill ( 4 hrs plus).

Not medically trained just what I experienced.
