I'm not medically trained but I have had this scenario many many times, particularly in past 18 months . .....Atrial tachycardia/flutter ? I got used to it but not particularly pleasant . I had an ablation 2 months ago where this and AF were dealt with. Quite a relief! I was given Bisoprolol to take but wasn't very effective plus I didn't like the side effects

Thanks Jalia,

I’m not coping well with bisoporol even at low dosage they make me so tired and even more fatigued.

I’ve been having issues for the lst 6 months and cardiology are trying to capture these moments as they arise I had the Kardia for 28 days and recorded 50 moments where my heart was either flip flopping, thumping, tachycardia and uncomfortable chest all times were when I was relaxed in bed or on sofa.

It’s horrible to have this and I’m awaiting their report/outcome.

That is just how Bisoprolol makes me feel.Certainly my arrhythmias started, in the main, without any apparent provocation.

The frequency of episodes would have been similar to yours. I only bothered recording when rates were high enough to make me feel compromised in the end. No wonder my Kardia wore out.....I had to get a replacement a few weeks ago🤣

I do hope you get some advice soon

Regards

J

Do the breathing techics AG. Watch a funny film (something daft to take your mind off it) or listen to some claiming music. Try it for an hour or so and see if it helps - it could.

Good luck.

Thanks Paulbounce,

I try and take my mind off it until weird heart beats/feelings start, I think I will try some headspace and calming music, try and zone out from it all.

Take care too.

Hi AG I’m curious what are these weird heart beats/feelings that start, I too have a “weirdness” with my af

Well, at least your I've captured these and have cardiology in the wings. I agree with Paul - do some slow breathing. If you can slow your breath down to say 6 in and outs a minute in a regular pattern, this can help. There's also a recent post about the vagus nerve where I shared about using the 2:1 breathing ratio. It helps me slow things down. Have a look. 🤞

Exactly what happens to me but unfortunately whatever technique I use to stop them never works twice. Think the same for most folk.

Mine are stimulated by vagus nerve so turning head, bending down, anything which puts pressure on it can start episode. Even humming! Last one was bending down to pick up shopping bag as I stepped out front door. Wham it started so back into house. Then thought no I am not going to let this rule me so if bending down started one I shall jolly well go out and bend down again thinking maybe it will stop it. And it did.

I have found that high dose of Magnesium Citrate can stop them

Hi Lbeat796 I’ve just started taking magnesium do think just 250mg is enough as it says to take just one a day Thanks Take care

Hi Exmouth, I only take magnesium when I have a tachycardia as find it more effective than taking every day. I take two 250 g of Magnesium Citrate. They do not always stop them but they ease them. Good luck to you too

The Kardia is a brilliant little gadget, I’ve only the one lead but perfect. I was in AF last Saturday changed apparently to A flutter, which was new to me. The paramedic said it was tachycardia and at one time the Kardia agreed, but my Consultant said flutter. Was like this all week till the day of my appointment 🙄 So in future maybe just book an appointment get threatened with ablation 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️

One good thing is that Flutter is a simple ablation with a very high success rate. My flutter was associated with a following AF. The flutter was fixed with an ablation and since then with a pacemaker I’m now free of all arrhythmias except for the odd ectopic coming through about once every 6 weeks.

Sadly I also have PAF + SVT! At mo consultant just upped flec to 150, then he suggested a change of meds if this isn’t successful. I suppose could get the flutter ablated first.

I bought a Kardia , one lead, on advice of my cardiologist at Barts, I have forwarded several ECGs to him when I have an attack of AF. I have never had a response! Just acknowledgement that it has been received!

That’s a shame, my Consultant thinks they’re great and even bought his father in law one. I send my readings to his secretary.

I’d recommend not sending too many, the docs can’t cope with bombardment. It’s difficult as you just want explanation. I keep a spreadsheet log - 1 line per ‘incident’. Then send that as a 1 pager plus one typical 30 second Kardia ecg. I’ve sent those 2 pages maybe 3 times in 20 months. Just my feeling.
