Heart rate at night

Heart rate is now continually in the low 40s at night. Is this a good thing? Occasionally goes that low during the day.

Heart rate will always drop when you are asleep but I would worry if your resting heart rate during the waking day is that low UNLESS you are a top athlete. I suggest that you discuss with your doctor as it may be that medication needs to be adjusted. Do be careful of blindly accepting the numbers from home devices though.

Never been an athlete in my life Bob! Not going to start at 78!🙄 Will chat to Arrythmia nurse as Dr will only refer me back to hospital. On 1.25 Nebivolol because of low heart rate. Di

My heart rate was often in 40 s and dropped lower at night. Higher in day time now I walk more. When I asked cardiologist if I’ll need pacemaker he smiled and say ‘not yet!’ If it’s your meds then get them reviewed and if not gentle walking !!!!

My doctor was worried when I told her my HR was often early to mid 40's during the day and immediately contacted my cardiologist, he told my doctor that he was not worried and would review in 6 months time. It so happens my meds where changed anyway as my Sotalol had appeared to be less affective. I am now on Dronedarone and my HR is usually late 40's or early 50's. I guess the cardiologist, having done the relevant tests ( if that is the case ) and is in a position to know the structure of the heart, wall muscles etc and knows what's best!

I think what worried me was having been so low night before last, hr didn’t raise much all day and I had two AF episodes. One with an average heart rate of 68!!! Last night wasn’t any better.

My wife's HR dropped similar to yours. She raised it with GP who reduced her dose of Bisoprolol.

I’m already on only 1.25 of Nebivolol a day because of the way my heart rate is so low.

"On 1.25 Nebivolol because of low heart rate."

No no. Nebivolol is a beta blocker that reduces heart rate.

Normally people with bradycardia are not put on beta blockers as it lowers the rate further.

I started on 2.5 and was reduced to 1.25. I assume I am taking it because I take 100x2 Flecainide a day.

When I first wore a heart monitor it showed my heart rate at night dropped to 38bpm. The cardiologist wasn’t at all concerned. This was prior to meds as they hadn’t picked up my paroxysmal Afib at that point. My heart rate has always been low - mid 50’s prior to beta blockers. Goodness knows what it drops to at night now I’m on bisoprolol - I haven’t worn a monitor since then to know...

Like Harbie I’ve always had a low heart rate. Following an AF episode I was started on Metoprolol as well as Apixaban. I had a 24hr Holter after that and my pulse also dropped to 38 at one time during the night. My cardiologist wasn’t concerned.
