People may recall that I reported that my Afib seems to have ceased since I started the Ivermectin prophylaxis protocol (12 mg once every 2 weeks) in February 2021 for something unrelated. I posted about that here: healthunlocked.com/afassoci...
At the time I speculated the ivermectin (known primarily as an anti-parasitic drug) may have cleared a parasite I didn't know I had, and that may have been enough to end the Afib. Prior to that, I had been having an Afib episode once every 2-3 weeks.
I recently came across this 2017 Japanese study that indicates ivermectin increases mitochondrial ATP production in cardiomyocytes. Perhaps this aspect could also assist in subduing Afib.
Antihypertrophic Effects of Small Molecules that Maintain Mitochondrial ATP Levels Under Hypoxia
Abstract
Since impaired mitochondrial ATP production in cardiomyocytes is thought to lead to heart failure, a drug that protects mitochondria and improves ATP production under disease conditions would be an attractive treatment option. In this study, we identified small-molecule drugs, including the anti-parasitic agent, ivermectin, that maintain mitochondrial ATP levels under hypoxia in cardiomyocytes. Mechanistically, transcriptomic analysis and gene silencing experiments revealed that ivermectin increased mitochondrial ATP production by inducing Cox6a2, a subunit of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. Furthermore, ivermectin inhibited the hypertrophic response of human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes. Pharmacological inhibition of importin β, one of the targets of ivermectin, exhibited protection against mitochondrial ATP decline and cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. These findings indicate that maintaining mitochondrial ATP under hypoxia may prevent hypertrophy and improve cardiac function, providing therapeutic options for mitochondrial dysfunction.
I'm not recommending that anyone else try this. There may be no connection between my ivermectin usage and the halt of my Afib. But since I am a case study in progress, I wanted to update everyone.

Hi Kim a very interesting read.I have been thinking of you and wondering how you were doing… Glad to hear you’re feeling better. Gives me to thinking too… im getting a loop device … honestly I finally get off all medication and really believe it made me sick— I’m feeling so much better not taking anything…. It was so strange because it was like my body would react when I tried to stop it and when I weaned off… keep us posted!
Hi Kim, great to hear you are good and still leading the charge on IVM. Thanks for the post, coincidentally I note Japan has just approved IVM. I also checked with a health adviser who doubted IVM would affect the gut bacteria adversely as it is not anti-bacterial. Certainly an interesting drug under-exploited at present. It restores your faith in humanity that there are some doctors worldwide prepared to speak out and offer alternative support to the existing vaccines. Best wishes.
Actually ivermectin does kill some bacteria and has been used to treat Staph aureus (resistant to common antibiotics), H. pylori, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis, among others. So I have wondered about weekly or biweekly usage unbalancing microbiome over time. But I decided its benefits in this pandemic outweigh that possibility. It may not even be active on the good bacteria we want in microbiome. I don't know. So I am still using it. And added a probiotic to help support microbiome.
I've been wondering how you are Kim and am pleased to hear that you are still AF free - quite an amazing result isn't it!! Sounds like I could have done with some Ivermectin when I had h-pylori.
Hi Jean! Yes, I was surprised to learn that ivermectin seems to be effective on H. pylori. I don't think it's widely used for that. But a study confirmed it works for that and suggested it could be used clinically for treating/eradicating H. pylori.
Hi Kim - I have just got some Ivermectin from an online pharmacy I use in America - very reliable I have been getting NDT from them for 20 years. How did you arrive at the 12 mg dosage?
0.2 mg per kilogram of body weight is standard human dosage for it anti-parasitic use, and also for the prophylaxis protocol for Covid protection from US doctors group: Frontline Covid Critical Care Alliance.
So for me that's 0.2 mg/kg x 60 kg (my weight) = 12 mg.
There is someone on this group who messaged me after reading my account of my experience and said they too have ended their afib after taking ivermectin prophylactically - i.e., just one dose every 2 weeks. i was blown away. there may be something to this after all. maybe not for all AF cases, but perhaps some.

December 9, 2021 UPDATE: After 5 months of ZERO afib or ectopics, I had a 30-hour afib episode that started yesterday and ended today. Interestingly... I had stopped taking the ivermectin prophylaxis protocol 5 1/2 weeks ago. Oct. 30, 2021 was my last ivermectin dose. Now I know that ivermectin will remain in tissues throughout the body approximately two weeks (which is why the original Covid prophylaxis protocol called for taking it once every 2 weeks). And I think I read somewhere that the longest deposits anywhere were one month. So after 5.5 weeks, I suspect all traces of ivermectin had vanished from my heart muscle cells.
So I did indeed take more ivermectin yesterday (12 mg). once I detected the Afib. And I will probably resume taking it once every 2 weeks again if that's what it takes to keep afib at bay!
My favorite theory for now is that ivermectin's ability to increase mitochondiral ATP production in cardiomyocytes (see article link in main post) is what stablizes and tonifies the heart muscle enough to prevent afib. At least that is the theory I am going with for now! lol! I find it very interesting that my afib of 5 years seemed to have totally vanished for months upon starting the ivermectin in February)... until I halted the ivermectin for enough weeks that it would have cleared from my tissues. And then afib returned.
Hi Kim,I have Afib going on three years after having bradycardia my entire life, which seems strange to me. But what I'm inquiring about if you have read anywhere that ivermectin lowers triglycerides? Since taking ivermectin my triglycerides dropped from just under 300 to 99, it's the only thing I can come up with that I've been doing differently.

That's an interesting question, Jack. It seems to do that! Here is an article saying as much: "Ivermectin decreases triglyceride accumulation by inhibiting adipogenesis of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes"
