Sinus tachycardia

Ok, so I'm in hospital with an infection in my outer ear. Ironically it's been caused by the two new piercings I had 8 weeks ago to celebrate surviving two cardiac ablations). So I'm on IV antibiotics.

Meanwhile for the last 9 days I have been experimenting (as instructed by Papworth) in only taking one flecainide tablet per day (evenings). So the periods of fast heart rate are getting more and more frequent and the current one is the longest one yet, 35 minutes and still going). The doctor managed to capture it on ECG and it is definitely not Afib but it feels pretty dehabilitating despite the fact I'm lying on the bed.

Tbh, I'm petrified my second ablation has failed. Has anyone else got this or had this happen? How did they treat it?

I've contacted the arrythmia nurses but not heard back yet.

If the rate is around 140 it is likely to be atrial tachycardia but don't preempt things. See what Arrhythmia nurse says. I hope you sent her a copy of ECG.

Yes, I will when the doctor comes back with it. Thanks

If you’re bad enough to be in hospital with iv antibiotics then your heart is not going to be happy! I was hospitalised with a bowel abscess about 8 weeks after ablation and my heart went mad 🤯 But didn’t affect final result.

Note to anyone else reading - you are more vulnerable to other stuff after ablation. Don’t worry about fitness and don’t celebrate for 6 months!

That's more cheerful than the cardiologist who reckons a third ablation is on the cards. Thanks go or the message buffafly

I think it's fluxo-something but there is also an oral one. I was getting the tachycardia since I reduced the flec but it's got much worse since this infection. Thank you for the message

The oral one was ciprofloxacin. I'm back on my original dose of flecainide now and all is well now. Thanks for your help xxxx

Ciprofloxacin like all the FQs can cause arrythmias. It can also have delayed effects like chemo can . Watch out for any tendon pain especially in the shoulders or the the Achilles tendons. Iam surprised they are still using it orally for something like an ear infection.

It was a cartilage infection and they are apparently difficult to treat, I suppose that's why. I'm on the flucax.. one too!!!!
