Does anyone take Naproxin for Arthritis pain?

Hi everyone, a quick summary for you. Two ablations, last one five and a half years ago. No meds and just one six hour stint in A&E seven months ago.

My problem is arthritis in my right shoulder. I'm three months in to recovery from having fifteen loose bodies removed, a full synovectomy, a full bursectomy, a decompression and a tendon removed. Plus some other stuff.

I am able to tolerate the pain most days but not at night. I take co-codomol for the pain. Either 2 15/500mg or the shop bought 8/500mg, which helps me get some sleep.

I am looking for a long term solution that will not affect my, at the moment stable, AF. I know Naproxin is an NSAID. But, is there any alternative for arthritis pain that anyone is taking?

Thanks for the great work this group does.

Paul

Hi pkc05,

No I don't take naproxen any more and it has caused me more pain than I was used to when I could take it. I have arthritis problems too and had the whole thing controlled quite well on a regimen of cocodamol, interspersed with either naproxen or ibuprofen, plus over the counter turmeric.

I am medicated for my AF and one of those medications is, of course an anti-coagulant, making NSAIDs unwise because of increased risk of bleeds. And I was advised that turmeric, as an anti-inflammatory was similarly unwise.

If you no longer take an anti-coagulant then I don't know of any other consideration for not taking NSAIDs and I'd think it was fine to carry on, but not without checking with a medical professional first, of course. Hope this helps. (I wish I knew what would help in this situation as it would really help me too! 🙂🙂

NSAIDS are a known cause of arrythmias, not just the anti-coagulants.

Naproxen , like all NSAIDS is a definite no ! They can promote arrhythmia s and must be avoided. Can you try the stronger 30/500 CoCodamol? I find this helps for extreme pain , particularly at night.
