I am on Rivaroxaban, I haven't heard anything. Usually when they change my brand it is about cost. Have they given you any reason?

Hi Rayswife...no reason just that they are changing the brand at the practice...l assume it must be cost because there doesn't seem to be a shortage...

My cardio who is in Surrey changed mine the same way for both USA research and cost reasons.

I believe that edoxaban is more competitively priced.

I've read that drug procurement and pricing varies and that is sometimes the reason for swapping. From what I know, the two are similar in action and effectiveness.

Hiya Ppiman....I'm thinking it's to do with the price....it's a little unnerving when you get used to one sort ..thanks for your reply..

When I turned 65 I asked to be put on apixaban or rivaroxaban, as, according to the research I'd looked at, both had fewer adverse events than edoxaban, and because there was no NICE authorised reversal for edoxaban (andexanet alfa is authorised for the other two). These seemed to be solid reasons to me, but it was made clear to me that it had to be edoxaban. The Practice pharmacist, strangely, was the person making the decision. I tried to contest it but got nowhere, even though there's cost benefit analysis evidence out there that suggests that when outcomes are considered, rivaroxaban and apixaban are cheaper for the NHS as a whole. It seemed to me that the only argument in favour of edoxaban was cost at the Practice level, which I found disappointing but not surprising. However, I know from the experience of other family members afflicted by AF that some Practices do prescribe apixaban or rivaroxaban.

That's good then ....l don't relish change in meds when everything seems to be going ok...I'll see what the pharmacist says about swapping my meds when she calls later in the month ...thanks for your reply..

I believe (can’t remember where I read it) that there is or was a class action in USA against Rivaroxaban because of adverse events. I changed to Apixaban for other reasons but pleased I did.

New pharmacist at my GP surgery changed me from Apixaban to Edoxaban saying it would be better because of my kidney clearance . It gave me headaches so reverted to lower dose of Apixaban….I do wonder whether these newly appointed pharmacists have a money saver remit.
