So who is looking after me…….

I was under the care of a locus cardiologist as well as the EP. The EP diagnosed atrial tachycardia rather than atrial fibrillation along with multifocal ventricular ectopics. Further echocardiogram, lung function and another 24 hour tape were requested to be done here by my local cardiologist. However, his locus position has now ended. All the tests have been done but the only one, as far as I can see, that has been forwarded to the EP is the latest 24 hour tape which shows hr 45-79 and multifocal ectopics, some signs of fluttering and singular ectopics. All very well, but who do I contact to discuss anything?

Well they tell me I contact my EP not cardiologist - though I still get an appointment every 6 months to chat with the cardiology nurses at the hospital where my cardiologist is based - for the last 18 months of course these have been telephone conversations . They will be able to access all test results on line.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately my EP is in another health authority and there seems to be little communication between them and my local health authority where my cardiologist was based. I have a double problem in that my cardiologist has now left and I haven’t, as yet, been assigned another……

Ring the hospital switchboard and ask to speak to one of the cardiology secretaries, they should be able to help you..

As a 40 year suffer of Atrial Fibrillation, I would want to be absolutely what yr cardio meant. Was it atrial tach in Sinus rhythm, parox Atrial Tach in Sinus rhythm, atrial fibrillation, Vtach, Atrial flutter or ????? Did u have a 12 lead ECG and is your cardiologist an EP / Electrophysiologist. It needs about 10 mins for him to explain all the differences and treatments, unless of course you are well versed in arrhythmia types. If you have Afib or Flutter, you will almost certainly need to be prescribed a rhythm drug such as amiodarone in conjunction with one of the new generation anticoagulants such as Apixaban or Xaralto. Do interrogate your Cardiologist fully and discuss the arrhythmia and prescription options thoroughly. My very best wishes.
