Just found out Iv been discharged 😳

Has anyone been discharged without being notified.? Last year I had a fourth PVI ablation planned but it was cancelled due to the covid situation which I fully understood. So after a few months I phoned my EP secretary to see what was happening etc. I was told I will get a phone call appointment in the two weeks. After a month I phoned back and was told the same again. This happened 3 times.😢 so I phoned again this week and was told that my records and past ablation results had recently been inspected in great detail by my EP and cardiologist and they have discharged me.!! I will receive a letter shortly. The secretary said it’s good news because they must be pleased with the outcome and cannot think I need a fourth ablation as last talked about. But I don’t know wether to be pleased or what to be honest.?? Any views would be great.

A similar thing has happened to me. I am getting a second opinion. I did eventually manage to get a telephone consultation with both cardiologist and EP - not helpful for me as I am hard of hearing. Anyway they both decided I could stay on apixaban and try rate control medication again - but that was the reason I was going for an ablation was because in the first instance all the rate control drugs - beta blockers, calcium channel blockers etc made me ill or feel worse than I was. They then prescribed digoxin 125 which was one of the drugs I felt ill on. I did manage 3 weeks on the lower dose digoxin 62.5 but then had mu first successful cardioversion and even though I have had 2 more successful cardioversions - the last one worked until May this year so had lasted for 15 months. So I can't understand why just 2 months in AF has made an ablation unsuitable whereas last October when my ablation was cancelled because of an outbreak of Covid 19 in the Cardiac Unit I would have had one. they should have contacted me early this year but didn't so I thought fine, they are busy catching up and I was still in NSR so didn't push it. In the end I had to e mail the EP's secretary and about 2 weeks later she did arrange the telephone consultation. I guess I should have got in touch with them earlier. They did do a new ECG so fine my heart may have enlarged from the previous one and I did say I was coping fine - but then due to current situation not doing a lot. So, as I say I am getting a copy of the ECG and have an appointment with my GP on Aug 2nd to get a referral to consult with a private EP it seems the only way of getting a face to face consultation if nothing else.

Thanks Desanthony for that. And It’s a good idea to get a second opinion I think I will push one too.👍 let me know how you get on.

Nice of them to let you know (sarcasm). It beggars belief, especially since covid, how it seems we the patient are the last to know what is going on in the minds of our medical teams and what if anything they have planned for us. It really is reprehensible.

Yes they are very busy but it feels so often that we have been forgotten in the mire of covid, its just not on. So we sit and wait not knowing what is going on and are expected to be fine with it all. Well it isnt fine its neglectful both to our physical health possibly at worst and our emotional wellbeing most definitely. I suspect things are unlikely to improve now we are all being herded into accepting this would be new reality. Argh.

Yes I agree with you meadfoot. And Iv worked all way through this covid at my work place and give everything Iv got to try and do my best given the covid situation we are all in but don’t seem to have received the same.?? No face to face appointment from GP surgery.! Never call back when they say they will and constantly chasing folk up. God only knows how many really poorly folk are going without treatment because of this covid.? I’m lucky but I bet there’s thousands who are in need of really serious treatment and unable to get it.!!😢

I agree Jetcat, its disgraceful. I fear for those not getting the treatment they need. I suspect the true cost for people will never be known and covered up. Best wishes, i would get that second opinion Desanthony suggested.

Sounds like you rang after the consultant had decided you could be discharged but before he had informed you and your GP by the letter. There is no rule that he has to phone you/see you first that I'm aware of.

I knew before I got the letter but that's because I rang him and told him that there was no point in having more tests as my heart was stable and I had been able to cut my SVT incidents by 66% by changing my diet. He followed up our conversation with a letter to my GP with a copy to me.

All the best.

Roy

That's good news for you. But it would have been nice if your Drs had been a little more communicative. Instead of leaving you wondering what's going on. To me that's inexcusable....Continue to stay well. Be safe. Covid is on the surge again.

Yes. I don't see it going back to normal in my lifetime. Hospitals here are again starting to put some surgeries on hold and limiting visitors and all that. 😞You take care also.
