He rides a Brompton whilst we are away. At 6’ 5” he looks as if he has escaped from the local circus! Hasn’t tried it yet however.

These Replies to your question are VERY encouraging. I get fitted with my Pacemaker on the 2nd August and undergo Av ablation some time later. I have been in Afib for so long that I have forgotten what 'normal' exercising feels like. I am confident, though, that I will recognise it if and when the procedures work .

Three years ago i had a cardioversion. It lasted a few months but always tired. I went onto many different drugs but became intolerant to them. This ttime last year i fell off the top of a ladder and wrnt straight into tachycardia . It was brought back to normal hrt with digoxin .

Short story i was eventually diagnosed with atypical flutter . This was continuous i also went in and out of afib. A echocardiogram showed i had extremely enlarged left atrium so ablation would not benefit me. But was offered pace and ablate. Ive had the pacemaker and i hope to have the AV node ablation next month. I of coutse wad a bit dubious about this bit it is the only choice i have. I have found a lot of encouragement for this decision on this site.

All the best for you. Colin.

~Alphakiwi - I am in Auckland, not sure where you are but are you having your procedure done privately?Wishing you well & hope you are able to get back to your activities like I am hoping for myself once recovered from my 17 Aug. cryo/ablation.

Hi Megams,I am in Kerikeri. I am fortunate to be having my pace and ablate procedures done in the public health system. I have a checkup of the pacemaker next friday which was implanted 11 days ago. I was told that the AV node ablation would be done 5 weeks or so after the pacemaker to give time for healing. Its all being done in the Auckland hospital. They have a great team there. All the best to you also.

You could head over to the cardiac athletes Facebook page. There's all sorts on there and I'm sure you'll find lots of help.

I am not doing competitive sports any more but I feel I am severely limited after a pace and ablate - and would really welcome any helpful comments on this. I feel something is "reining me in", not particularly breathless but sort of on the verge of it when exercising and can only walk a couple of miles without being very tired. My cardiologist says it is because the pacemaker comes with its off-the-shelf setting, sort of one size fits all (or not!). Or it could be that I am still on a load of medications including Bisprolol because of the underlying heart condition. I would sell my soul to be able to go back to moorland/dales walking. Any suggestions?

What sort of PM do you have? Does it always stay at one setting?

Biotronik, two wires, does have rate response and it gets up to about 110 when I am walking. The pacemaker clinic have talked about "tweaking" it but then chicken out. I would love any advice you could offer.

I would say its your underlying heart condition that is the problem. Do you have high blood pressure,if so i would try a plant based diet, no alcohol and no dairy which i do. When i walk briskly my hrt doesnt exceed about 90 on the flat. Gentle excersise daily on a rowing machine or stationary bike to get your fitness up. I have a heart rate monito on and keep in zone 2 to 3 grat increasing the load and time each week.I have no underlying problems just this electrical one which i have struggled with.

Keep at it ,you can improve. Anything you want to know about excersising for fitness keep in touch. Were all in this one together.

Sorry, no advice, as I am not having my own node ablation until 3rd August. But I would say that if you are not happy, make a fuss.

I have CRT-p fitted mid November. The av node ablation appointment was cancelled. My heart rate now seems more controlled at around 70 bpm. I used to get up to 140 bpm before pacemaker was fitted it very rarely gets that high now😊😊

I have had crt-p fitted since last November not had ablation done yet as app was cancelled. My exercise at the moment is a walk for 20 to 30 min each day weather permitting 😊
