REDUCING SOTALOL LEVEL

Has anyone decided to cut back on the amount of prescribed Solalol? I am prescribed 80mg (40 mg twice a day), but since I rarely experience an event (usually trigger by alcohol) I have been breaking one of the pills in half to reduce the 80 mg by 25%. Currently, after a month, no issues, but maybe a bit more energy.

Hi,I had too many side effects from Sotalol. Gave me no QOL. Doctor prescribed 80 mgs. and it worked for 5 days. Then Doctor increased Sotalol to 120 mgs, but Afib returned after 12 days. Went for Cardioversion, Cardiologist placed me on 60 Mgs. and said, "Afib may return." Afib returned 2 weeks later. I was back on Sotalol but 80 mgs. Still had some side effects and never helped get me back into NSR although all my tests showed no heart issues. I assumed I developed Afib from a vitamin or mineral deficiency.

I knew Doctor would only change my meds so I did extensive research on supplements. Found if supplements will benefit Afib issues if taken for 8-10 weeks, Afib may then be controlled. There are only a few studies on this procedure because most people want immediate action. After 7 1/2 weeks with a lot of patience, I went back into NSR. It is over one month now I am in NSR, more than ever on the meds. I thank goodness for each Afib free day!

I take 750 mgs. Magnesium chilated Glycinate and Taurate 3 times per day, Hawthorn Berry (1800 mgs. 3 times per day), Vitamin D3 and Vitamin C, and Wild Alaskan Fish Oil (630 mgs. 3 times per day). I added in some CoQ10/L-Carnitine as well.

I was very tired on Sotalol too. So when I added the supplements, I started to gradually lower dosage of Sotalol. I did this by removing 10 mgs. for at least two weeks at a time. I am now on 50 mgs. I'm still getting a little tired but not like before. I am no longer out of breath when I walk. I will start on 40 mgs. in two weeks. I read that 40 mgs. does not have any anti-arrythmia benefits, however, I expect these supplements to replace the drugs and keep me in NSR. If they don't I will gradually introduce the 60 mgs. back into my system. I had to do what is right for my body and QOL because Doctors only push meds. They are not trained in natural health alternatives.

Hope this helps you. Good luck!

Dee, I love your response.... I took 60 mg the entire month of June with no negatives... heart rate still low (50-55). There seems to be a minor improvement regarding loose stool and I have a bit more energy.

I just went down to 40 mg this Sunday (half a pill twice a day). I am a bit concern regarding your comment about losing anti-arrhythmia at 40 mg. Since I only experience Afib occasionally (once every other month) and usually triggered by alcohol :-) -- it might be awhile before I can tell if this is a problem.

When I do go into Afib, it has always only lasted 24 - 48 hours. I suppose Solalol is what keeps it under that time frame. So, if it every goes longer, like 3 -4 days, I will probably go back to 60 mg.

In the meantime, I will start taking Magnesium chilated Glycinate. and get back to taking Fish Oil. I already take Vitamin D3+K2. I will need to review the reasons for the Taurate (anti-inflammation), Hawthorn Berry and the CoQ10/L-Carnitine as well.

Thanks for your time and effort!

Hi. 60 mgs of Sotalol raised my HR from 60 to 67. But that’s still fine for me.

I take 80mgs twice a day and would love to reduce it. Like you have rarely if ever had another AFib event. Would love to know how you progress.

I cut my dosage down to 80 mg per day and it has helped me to have more energy. I too was taking it twice a day but was feeling too tired all the time. My level of Afib is still under control and have had little to no Afib in the past 6 months size I have lowered the dosage. It seems to me that if you have only sporadic Afib attacks it may be possible to reduce medication, but not sure if this works for everyone. So far I am feeling fine and it has worked for me.

I was on 40mg 2x daily, but it started triggering my asthma. My EP told me to reduce to 20mg 2x daily, no asthma and no Afib. Been on that for over a year now and feel fine.
