I walk my dog between 3 and 5 miles a day and do core exercises at the gym twice a week so I think I should have a fair amount of energy. But I don’t! I wake up tired, I have episodes of feeling really tired throughout the day and am likely to fall asleep if I read in the afternoon or when I’m watching TV. ( I don’t always sleep well). I think much of the tiredness is due to Antenalol (I take 100mg). I didn’t get on with Flecainide, Digoxin or Bisoprolol but a consultant suggested I could change to Sotalol - but I’m loath to do that as Antenalol works. Does anyone know if Sotalol makes you tired - or is it a case of just getting on with it?

Tiredness
Hi. You are describing exactly how I feel myself. I can't be of any help to you I'm afraid but there are so many people on here that give excellent advice. I have just had my Bisoprolol upped to 10 mg daily (which I believe is the maximum) and like you I'm OK when I'm moving around but as soon as I sit down I feel like falling asleep. I understand Bisoprolol is renowned for this but I have been taking 5mg for a long time now. I'm also on Flecainide and hate it, I feel it makes my eyes blurry which of course makes you sleepy. Good luck. I hope you get to the bottom of it.
Are you anaemic ? Low blood components can make you very tired. Might be worth getting your GP to check.
Yes, that’s a thought. Thanks.
Are you on on any reflux medicine? I was on lanzoprazole post ablation andwas gettng more tired. Although not anaemic a blood test showed i was low B12 . The prazoles stop absorption through the stomach. As i Did not have reflux anyway i stopped the the lansoprazole and felt better after a few weeks
I feel like that. I have a bit more energy in the afternoons but fall asleep watching TV or reading. I don't sleep well either. I blame bisoprolol for some of it. I try to get on with it as best I can but it's not good feeling tired all the time. I used to sleep well.
Get your thyroid levels checked and maybe cut down on exercise, your body is telling you it's doing to much ! I used to walk my dogs for miles everyday but I've had to accept that I can't do it now, they still get walked but not as far, no point in me killing myself !
I have been on Sotalol 2x80mg for about a year, for PAFIB, I found it better from a fatigue perspective than Metoprolol. About 3mths after PVI ablation, successful, I was able to reduce to 2x40mg, recently at about 4mths post PVI my energy levels improved dramatically.
All those fatigue symptoms you mentioned I had and excuse the pun, they are horribly debilitating.
At my 6mth review I am hoping to go off Sotalol altogether.
Hope this helps.
Geoff
I think most meds for PAF can cause fatigue - anti-arrhythmics, beta-blockers and calcium-channel blockers all have fatigue as a side effect.
I have got a horrible feeling that you are right! Thanks.
Tiredness can be due a drug but this can be mitigated somewhat if you improve other factors.
e.g. I suffered tiredness and didn't sleep well, I believe part through anxiety, mild sleep apnea (had a test) and lack of oxygen. Solution: first I bought an Oxymeter (not expensive) to check my saturation levels which are indeed often 96% sometimes lower. I then started using nasal strips at night, found more exercise helped (e.g. cleaning the house from top to bottom in 3hrs boosts my saturation levels to 98/99%!) and started breathing properly and more slowly (see references to James Nestor & Patrick McKewan here and on YouTube) with daily half hour exercises (while I walk). For the last year I have been also taping my mouth at night (thumb nail size tape over the middle of the lips. I also practice daily a couple of Yoga exercises, Mindfulness & prayer. I really don't know what is working and what is not but my sleep is improved and my energy level is back.
Ask your GP to check you over. It could be the pills or it could be any manner of other stuff such as anaemia or a vitamin deficiency. Good luck
