Acid Reflux after Ablation

I had an Ablation on 8th June. Was told they were really pleased on how it went. It was done under TOE guidance. After about a week i realised i was burping more than i normally. I was at my gp and explained it to him. He said it was Acid Reflux gave me Omeprazole to take. Lately i seem to be burping more even with taking these. Also i have a feeling of trapped wind around the base of my throat and across my chest. Is this normal? I know it will be almost a month since i had it done, am i overthinking this too much?

I have a telephone consultation with the Cardiologist who originally referred me For the Ablation(local hospital dont do Ablations). Obviously i am going to bring this up. I just wondered if anybody else has had similiar experiences/advice?

Thanks guys

We mention this (any much more) in our fact sheet on recovery heartrhythmalliance.org/res.... It is quite common but should settle soon.

Hi, I had an ablation 9 months ago, and suffered with gastroparesis (stomach paralysis) from the next day. It’s caused by the Vagus Nerve being damaged during the ablation. There are varying degrees of this condition. Mine was quite severe, and is still only 50% back to normal. It sounds like yours is not too severe and hopefully will resolve soon. Best wishes ☘️

Yes, I had this. Hubby looked at Google and found some scary stuff ( as usual with Google) so he made me call the arrythmia nurses who double checked all my symptoms and were able to rule out anything nasty. It gradually wore off after a few weeks but worth getting it checked with the nurses

I had an ablation at the end of April and was given an antacid medication (forgot the name) for possible acid reflux after the procedure. I didn't have the symptom and so was taken off the drug, but apparently acid reflux is a common side effect after ablations.

acid reflux can also be owing to the anti-coagulant if you were or are still on Pradaxa (dabigatran).

Before my ablation, my doctor prescribed Omeprazole. However, I pointed out that I was already taking Omeprazole (for many years). So, I think some acid reflux is pretty common following an ablation. But, it should not be permanent.
