Verapamil and alcahol?
Hi Dpc.
In a perfect world the answer would be no. However if you do have a toast make sure it's in moderation and just sip rather than gulp it down.

Edit - we all seem like a drink can have a different effect on us. For me a few beers are fine - however for other forum members even a sniff can set off afib.
Just be aware that alcohol is a stimulant so may act against the meds so be aware of your HR as raised HR may trigger AF and rather than chance an episode, best be safe. I find that white wine is OK but I always water it 50/50 with sparkling water because in a happy, social occasion it’s always too easy to drink a little more than is safe, too quickly.
Read the leaflet that comes with the tablets.
Agree with RobboKM read the leaflet.
Yes but all tablets say no alcholol don't they.
Think some say avoid which is not a dont. Cardio said don’t drink white, I don’t know why. But I think from reading this we are all so different with this AFib.....I can drink a couple of glasses of red. Or a couple of beers, I always then drink water before I go to bed. I started with one smallbeer ages ago. As I said we are all a huge bubble of different reactions to many things.....

I took Verapamil ( 240mg) for about 12 years and had no problem having my daily glass of red wine or the occasional beer.
I had the worse reaction after consuming alcohol when on Verapamil. I actually had a bad reaction on Verapamil on its own, which is why I fired my doctor when he wouldn't take me off it. There are other alternatives. In short, I had a bad reaction combining the two.
Ethel103, I was changed to Lisinopril and Bisoprolol. After my a-fib got worse through a number of years, I was changed to Flecainide and Digoxin. Since my ablation in April, I no longer take those. My current meds are Dofetilide and Metoprolol Succinate. I hope this helps, and good luck to you!
Verapamil reduces liver efficiency, so I find alcohol affects me more and sooner.
