Hi Everybody
I wonder if anyone has been on Verapamil 40mg 3 times daily, and found it successful
or not. It has just been prescribed for me, as I wanted to try another type of medication before agreeing to ablation.

I started with Verapamil a few years ago 120mg X 2 daily. Then a year ago I began to feel faint so my GP reduced it to 80 X 2 daily. I have perf. AFib. Quite quickly I felt fine. Never had any other problems with Verapamil.
Hi 10gingercats
Thanks for replying to quickly. This will be my 5th try at medication. I started on Bisoprolol, then on to Sotalol then Flecainide and finally Diltiazem, None of these worked for me.
Hopefully I will be starting these by Friday. You have made me feel quite hopeful. I have Afib, with my heart going either crazy or slowing down at various times during the day - tiring isn't it?
It is tiring I take Bisoprolol 2.5 mg and Flecainide twice a day. Not tried verampril sorry.
Im on verspimil 40 x 3 for just over a year. Im aldo on bisopolol
Doesn't stop the af.s
But no orobs really.
Hi
I am on verapamil , i was on a higher dose but it slows my heart rate down, so dropped it lower, still having same problem,
But they are thinking of taking me off it and having a pacemaker, but everyone is different, you might be fine on it, Suzy
Yes I was on it for two years with no side effects other than it lowered my max heart rate which made it a bit harder when running or cycling, Which is what you would expect
I was on it for three years with just leg swelling as a problem which was fixed by raising my legs at night. However it gradually lost its effectiveness and I eventually had an ablation.
Hi, I took Bisoprolol but it had no effect apart from making me tired and breathless.
Was changed to Verapramil slow release but AF still got worse so this was increased to 120mg X 3 daily. I still get AF episodes lasting a few days, about twice a week. However, I do feel better generally as the symptoms of high blood pressure have improved and I have slightly less angina/shortness of breath when in AF.
But he major downside of such a high Verapamil dose is the ruddy awful constipation! Despite having a very healthy diet, it's a big issue, have just been to the GP today for something else to try for this.
Good luck :o)
Have you tried grinding linseed seeds and putting c 2 tablespoonfuls on you break. cereal?Or there may other ways to take it.
I take 120 mg Verapamil daily. To combat constipation, I take 300 mg Magnesium Citrate daily plus about 1 teaspoon of Psyllium Husk with my oatmeal in the morning. As a result, I have no problems having a bowel movement daily, almost.
Agree with the constipation problem. Verapamil did not agree with me at all. Made my resting heart rate fast and I felt like I was going to pass out. That was my experience. Doesn't mean that would be yours.
I was on verapamil 240mg slow release tablets, one a day up until my ablation in November 2016. They worked really well for me, no side effects etc. I decided to have the ablation just so I could come off medication basically, however last month (7 months post ablation) problems have started again palpitations etc, I'm currently sat with a weekly tape on to see whether or not I should go for another ablation!!
