Hi all. Does anyone know if a PVI ablation procedure treats atrial fibrillation only.? I see there is a procedure using catheterisation to treat ectopics too. I’m wondering wether if my 3 PVI ablation procedures Iv had in the past would in any way protect me from any ectopics progressing into afib as Iv had them daily for last two days now and Iv been doing so well this last twelve months with it all. Thanks guys/girls.

I think ablation is used sometimes but it seem s a bit extreme- ablation has serious risks and ectopics are a nuisance but not life threatening. Also can only ablate if ectopics are occurring at the time. There are some meds and lifestyle suggestions to try first I think! PVI stops the main source of much AF getting past - don't know where they ablate ectopics really

New research via Mayo clinic is discovering that frequent etopics may not be that benign. You can go on line and read the newest research. There is an ablation procedure for these. EP's will do the ablation when the burden is over a certain percent and you have had treated or untreated AFIB by an ablation. Very experiences EP's will track these down in a procedure, but it takes time. This is done under light sedation so that the etopics are not suppressed and the EP tracks the mis firings. If you have a lot, makes it much easier to track. If medication does not control to within a tolerable level, this is a conversation with your doctor. All procedures have risks. But so does not having a decent HR and your quality of life is compromised. I have had 2 ablations. One mini maze a years ago, and a "touch up" 2 years ago when AFIB came back, and may need a third here soon. I am willing to take the risk to enjoy my life and reduce other risks the irregular heart beat can do. Usually a holter monitor is ordered for certain period of time to document these and other arrhythmias. Hope this helps. Keep searching for answers.
