Two weeks ago, I had a PVI ablation for Afib and a SVT ablation for an accessory pathway. On the seventh and eighth day after the ablations, I experienced several bouts of palpitations. I am wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and, if so, was it determined after the blanking period that your ablation was a success or did you have to have another one. Also, two nights ago my heart raced a little because I had a frightening experience. Now, I'm worried that getting scared and causing my heart to beat rapidly could have hindered or damaged the healing process. Do I need to worry about this?

NO this is perfectly normal. Three months from now you might think things have settled down but not before. True you may need a second procedure but it is still far too early to say that so relax and enjoy life.

Thank you for your responding to my post. Your words are very encouraging. I do need to quit worrying so much.

The blanking period is now thought to be about a month so don't worry- your heart is recovering from the onslaught!!

Don't wish to disagree but a month ia a very short time. Every one is different and it can take up to 3 months regardless of what medics say

yes you are right- everyone is different -we're talking averages here I think- The EP who told us this recently had just been to a conference and told us this seems to be the latest thinking- presumably based on what happens to the majority of people- but you are quite right to stress it varies- I know with very vigorous episodes of AF it seems to trigger lots of short episodes that then seem to tail off- it's as if the heart gets irritated and takes time to settle isn't it

Thanks, that's encouraging!

I posted like you a couple of weeks after my ablation concerned because I had several short bouts of AF and other strange heart wobbles. They gradually receded over a few more weeks so definitely don't think the procedure wasn't a success. Your heart is still re configuring after being attacked so this is perfectly normal. Of course, there is always a possibility you will need another procedure, but very early days. You are through the difficult bit!! Good luck.

Thank you, I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my post. I haven't had any more lengthy bouts of palpitations, only some brief moments of rapid heartbeat.

Hi, I had my 1st ablation 3 weeks ago and I too have had short runs of of something, not sure if it is ectopics, AF or flutter but I do realise it is a waiting game for the first 3 months. I have also developed a little intermittent pain around the heart area a little bit like a pinching feeling but only lasts a second or two. I think we have to try not to panic every time there is a little blip, difficult I know. Hope all goes well for you.

Thank you, Brenda, I sure hope all goes well for you, too. Almost nightly, I have a brief moment of rapid heartbeats, but I am trying not to worry about it. With regard to the pain around the heart area, I, too, have experienced that a couple of times. So, apparently, all of these symptoms is a part of the healing process. Please let me know in a couple of weeks or so as to how you're doing.

We're all different aren't we - the blanking period from my first ablation ended last week - I had 4 AF episodes lasting from 8 -24 hours during that time. Otherwise apart from the usual aches and pains associated with age (I'm 68) I've managed to get on with life reasonably well - although the anxiety rarely goes away!

A sensible diet, plenty of fluids - especially water - enough exercise that one can tolerate - and medication taken as prescribed is probably all one can realistically do.

Thank you for responding to my post. I have been trying to eat more healthy foods, drink plenty of water, walk some each day, and am trying to control my anxiety level, although that's the hardest goal to achieve. I am so hoping these lifestyle changes will make a difference.
